Despise No One
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 18:10–14 and Psalm 68:1–10 (NIV)
(Michael Chiam from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Matthew 18:10–14 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The context of Matthew 18:10–14 begins earlier in the chapter, where Jesus speaks about “the little ones.” These “little ones” refer to believers who may seem unnoticed, vulnerable, or insignificant in the eyes of others, yet they are deeply valued by God. Jesus reminds His disciples not to cause these to stumble.
Jesus then shares the parable of a man who owns one hundred sheep. When one sheep wanders away, the owner leaves the ninety-nine to search for the one that is lost. When he finds it, he rejoices greatly. Through this picture, Jesus shows us how deeply God cares for every believer. No one is forgotten or unimportant to Him, and He lovingly desires each believer to remain close to Him.
APPLY:
As I reflect on this passage, I am reminded of the importance of treating fellow believers with kindness, patience, and compassion. Sometimes, it is easier to spend time with those I naturally relate to or feel comfortable around, but this passage encourages me to look beyond differences and remember that everyone is precious in God’s eyes.
It also challenges me to grow in humility and understanding—to be more willing to listen, care for, and support people from different backgrounds, personalities, and experiences. By doing so, I can help create a community where people feel welcomed, valued, and encouraged in their faith.
DO:
I want to continue learning how to love those in the household of God more sincerely and thoughtfully. I hope to be someone who helps others feel accepted, encouraged, and cared for, especially those who may feel overlooked or discouraged. Instead of focusing on differences, I want my words and actions to reflect God’s grace, patience, and love.
PRAY:
Dear Lord, help me to see others the way You see them. Teach me to treat Your people with kindness, humility, patience, and love. Guard my heart from pride or judgment, and remind me that every brother and sister is precious to You. Help me encourage and care for others in a way that reflects Your heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
