Because You Give, We Grow In Faith – And Lives Are Transformed

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Faith is not formed overnight. It grows slowly, intentionally – through teaching, community, and a willingness to journey deeper with God.

At Wesley, discipleship is not left to chance. It is cultivated through spaces where people can grow, ask, wrestle, and be transformed. And because you give, these spaces continue to exist.

DISCIPLE, PRECEPT UPON PRECEPT, COMPANIONS IN CHRIST – THREE STAPLE COURSES

In 2011, a simple reunion dinner by graduates of the sole DISCIPLE Bible Study class that year sparked something unexpected – a renewal of hunger for God’s Word. A DISCIPLE Committee was formed, and what followed was a movement that has since seen more than 2,000 participants journey through DISCIPLE. Each of the four modules lasts 32-34 weeks. This renewed desire for spiritual growth gave rise to further pathways of discipleship.

2025: DISCIPLE Graduation: 13 Classes across the four modules, with 158 graduates

Companions in Christ (CIC) spiritual formation course also witnessed a renewal. It re-started with one class in 2016, following a lapse of a few years. Ten graduated, and six stepped up to co-facilitate three new classes in 2017. To-date, nearly 400 individuals have gone through the 28-session CIC course.

2016: CIC restarted with one class. Six of the 10 graduates moved on to start three new CIC classes in 2017
2025: CIC Year-end Celebration – 4 CIC, 4 The Way, 2 EHS and 2 EHR classes

More than 2,500 have also engaged in Precept Upon Precept, which is an inductive Bible study started at Wesley in 2008. Each book study can take a few months to complete.

Each of these three courses represents not just learning, but transformation – lives being shaped more deeply in Christ.

EMERGENCE OF NEW COURSES

Over the years, we have seen a growing desire for spiritual formation courses among our members. However, many may not be able to commit to a 28-week CIC course. As such, the church introduced two shorter 8-week courses – Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (EHS) and Emotionally Healthy Relationships (EHR) in 2022. To-date, the two courses have attracted 190 members. Many CIC graduates have also moved on to participate in shorter The Way series.

In addition, the Spiritual Companion Formation programme was started in 2024. This is a by-invitation programme extended to individuals who are exploring serving as spiritual companions in our Spiritual Companionship Ministry. Thus far, 33 participants from three cohorts have completed the course.

In 2020, we also started Christian Believer, a study of Christian doctrines. It is an extension of the DISCIPLE modules and is recommended for mature Christians who have completed at least three DISCIPLE modules. Some 52 members have since completed the course.

Meanwhile, the COVID pandemic provided the opportunity to create a new platform of equipping and nurturing our church members. Since June 2020, the Discipleship & Nurture (D&N) Committee organised regular Mid-Week Teaching Sessions (MWTS) where our pastors and invited speakers took turns to teach and engage Wesleyans online. These teaching sessions support the church theme and the church sermon series. Over the six years, the teaching sessions have attracted a total of 11,551 participants.

Finally, the new course curriculum for “Core Series” was introduced in August 2022. The three categories are Basic Christian Beliefs, the Christian Life and History of Christianity. Together, they seek to guide members to a holistic understanding of the Christian faith and to participate in the rhythm of the Christian life. So far, some 3,908 participants have benefitted from this Core Series, first started in 2019.

Nine retreats with more than 1,000 participants feeling strangely warmed

There are also moments set apart for deeper encounter. Since 2022, some 1,003 participants have attended Strangely Warmed Retreats. In these settings, away from the routines of daily life, many experience renewal –  rediscovering their first love for God, surrendering long-held struggles, or discerning new direction for their lives.

BECAUSE YOU GIVE, MANY GREW DEEPER IN FAITH

This is the work of discipleship: a long, faithful journey of becoming more like Christ.

And every class, every group, every retreat is made possible through a shared partnership – through your giving.

Every life deepened, every faith strengthened, every disciple raised – this is what your giving makes possible.

As you consider your pledge, remember that you are not simply sustaining programmes. You are investing in lives that will continue to grow, endure, and impact others in turn.

Because you give, we grow deeper in faith!
