His Boundless Grace

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Matthew 15:21-28 and Psalm 60 (NIV)

(Ruth Lam, Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Matthew 15:21-28 (NKJV)

“And she said, ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.’”

OBSERVE:

The passage recounts the story of a Canaanite woman who appealed to Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus initially rejects her repeated requests, pointing out that His ministry was to the Jews. Yet the woman persevered, respectfully and sincerely appealing for His grace. I think this is rooted in her recognition of His Lordship and a strong conviction that only He had the power to heal. As a result of her faith, her daughter was healed (v. 28).

APPLY:

Jesus is pleased when we hold fast to our faith in Him, even when His initial response may seem like a denial of our requests. Therefore, I come to Jesus repeatedly, not letting go of Him regardless of the situation. Even when it seems dire, I should persevere in faith, trusting in His character and His grace. Rather than give up, I should press in even harder, pleading for grace upon grace to abound.

DO:

I will take this heart of persevering faith in Him into every situation, knowing that Christ listens and is moved by my cries to Him. Assured by His love, I will continue holding all things up to Him in prayer, desiring that it will always draw me nearer to Him.

PRAY:

Dear Lord, Your grace knows no bounds. In Your ministry on earth, Your compassion abounded, and You healed those who came to You in faith. How much greater is Your love toward us, a people whom You have reconciled to Your Father by Your death. May we never lose sight of this. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
