Wesley Children’s Ministry Camp 2024: Where Faith and Fun Collide!

The recent Wesley Children’s Ministry (CM) Camp held at our church was an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, engaging conversations, learning and spiritual growth! From 4 – 6 December 2024, Wesley Methodist Church was transformed into a hub of activity as children aged five to 10 embarked on a journey themed “Wisdom for Living”.

Thoughtful Camp Activities for Impact
From the moment the children arrived, they were immersed in a world of excitement. They delved into four sessions of lessons from the book of Proverbs, engaged in friendly competition during fun and games, and unleashed their creativity through crafts like building traffic light models and making binoculars. Each activity was thoughtfully designed to foster teamwork, build friendships and create lasting memories.

Learning to outsmart scams

Elyssa Tan, 10, one of the enthusiastic campers this year, shared that her favourite activity at camp was when they had to figure out which statement to choose and then decide what to do about it during the “sticky situations”: “We had to work together as a group to understand why the statement is wrong and decide which statement was correct.”

“I also liked staying over at YWCA. I could spend time with all my primary four friends, we had a sleepover together and had snacks during movie night. I learned that wisdom means to do the right thing at the right time, and I gained teamwork skills. I really enjoyed every part of the camp,” added Elyssa.

Elyssa’s twin sister, Ondrea, on the other hand, shared that her favourite activity was the sleepover at YWCA: “We could make new friends, buy our own food at Funan and snacks for movie night!”

Their younger sister, Yvette, chimed in: “For me, my favourite activity at camp was singing the church song, Ask, Seek, Knock, as I enjoyed dancing to the song.”

Beyond Fun and Games
But the camp was more than just fun and games. Through interactive Bible lessons, engaging “sticky situations”, and thoughtful small group discussions, the children explored the theme of “Wisdom for Living.” They learned that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, involves doing and saying the right thing at the right time, and is more valuable than anything else. Worship sessions filled with joyful singing and actions created a powerful atmosphere of connection and reflection, allowing the children to experience God’s presence in a meaningful way.

Ivy Ang, a first-time volunteer group facilitator, reflected on her experience: “The camp’s theme, based on Proverbs 9:10, got me thinking a lot about what it means to help these children grow closer to God and, on a personal level, how to parent my own children with godly wisdom.”

“At the end of the camp, I was reminded to trust God for these children because He watches over them and that our role as parent/teacher is to encourage our children to depend on Him at a very young age. It was also heartwarming to see how the older and younger people came together to serve God with their energy and talents.”

Volunteers’ Servant Hearts
Of course, none of this would have been possible without our incredible team of volunteers! Their dedication, enthusiasm, and servant hearts were instrumental in the camp’s success.

The dedicated team of over 60 volunteers

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our volunteers for leading the energetic worship sessions, organising the delicious meals, and to all the camp group facilitators for their patient guidance and mentorship,” said Pastor Benjamin Lau, who oversees the Children’s Ministry.

One parent, Madam Yao, expressed her gratitude, saying: “My son said that he would only be at camp for one day, but he enjoyed himself so much that he stayed on throughout the camp period. Many thanks to all the thoughts and hard work put in for the camp.”

The impact of the camp was undeniable. We witnessed children expressing a desire to learn more about their faith and deepen their relationship with God. The camp also fostered a stronger sense of community within our Children’s Ministry, creating bonds that will last long after the camp’s conclusion.

Filled with laughter, learning and lasting memories, Wesley CM Camp 2024 was truly an adventure in faith! We can’t wait to see what God has in store for our young adventurers at next year’s camp!
