Earthly Wealth Ends In The Grave
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 12: 1-14 and Psalm 49: 16-20 (NIV)

READ:
Psalm 49: 16-20 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The psalmist in this passage teaches me not to be intimidated by or envious of the rich. The rich with their extravagant possessions, extensive privileges and abundant wealth will be nothing, as they perish like all living things. Because earthly gains are temporal, all will meet death and stand before God’s judgment. The only true security lies in God’s redemption as declared by the psalmist in verse 15 “But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead; he will surely take me to himself.”
APPLY:
My recent investment in gold led to financial losses, which prompted deeper reflection on what truly matters. I am reminded by God’s word that material possessions are transient. I should not be preoccupied but guard my heart and mind to prioritize spiritual wealth over earthly possessions (Matthew 6:19–21). It has also taught me that true security is found in God alone—who rescues me from the power of the grave and grants eternal life through Christ.
DO:
I will recalibrate my heart and intentionally grow in spiritual preparedness to be a faithful steward of the resources God has entrusted me with. To keep short accounts of my actions, resting in the assurance that I am blessed by this spiritual wealth because Christ has already paid the price for my redemption.
PRAY:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of salvation and the grace that sustains me each day. I confess that I have often placed my priorities on material things and achievements rather than on faithfulness to Your Word. You have lovingly searched my heart and prompted me to know what truly matters. Thank You for Your gentle reproof and spiritual lesson today. Help me to live with gratitude, and walk in obedience to Your word, not depending on worldly security, but on Christ alone.
In God’s holy and gracious name, I pray. Amen.
