Welcoming Diversity
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Genesis 10 and Psalm 74:18-23 (NIV)
(Emmeline Wong from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Read Genesis 10, paying attention to verse 32:
“These are the clans of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, in their nations, and from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood.”
OBSERVE:
Genesis 10 traces the descendants of Noah’s three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—whose children were born after the flood. More than a simple genealogy, the “Table of Nations” reveals God’s intentional design for humanity’s expansion. The descendants spread across different lands, developed distinct languages, and formed separate clans and nations. These names represent not only individuals but also tribal and regional peoples across the ancient world. This orderly dispersion was neither chaotic nor accidental but reflected God’s sovereign purpose, as summarized in Genesis 10:32: “from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood.”
APPLY:
As I reflect on Genesis 10, I am reminded that the diversity of people, languages, and cultures is not accidental—it is part of God’s intentional and purposeful design and I should see the world around me in that light. I admit that there are times when I have made unfair assumptions about people because of their race, culture, or background.
Every race is God’s creation and deeply loved by Him. The gospel crosses every cultural and ethnic boundary, inviting all people into God’s family. As the church moves towards a culture of welcoming, I have learnt that this is not just about being hospitable but also about growing as a disciple of Christ. I want to learn to welcome others the way Christ has welcomed me.
DO:
• Seeing others through God’s eyes. When I meet people from different nations, languages, or cultures, I will remember that they are part of God’s beautiful design and are deeply loved by Him.
• Being intentional in welcoming others. I will take the first step to build genuine friendships across cultural boundaries, reflecting Christ’s love, just as Christ has welcomed me.
• Praying beyond my own world. I will regularly lift up unreached people groups, asking God to reveal Himself and open hearts to the good news of Jesus.
PRAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for my prejudice and racism. Help me see others through Your eyes, welcome every person with Christ’s love, pray faithfully, and boldly share the gospel with all people. Amen.
