My God Is Still Sovereign

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Genesis 9 and Psalm 74:10-17 (NIV)

(Ryan Lim from Church Analytics Ministry)

READ:

Psalm 74, paying attention to verses16 and 17:

“The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun. You have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter.”

OBSERVE:

Verses 16 and 17 reflect the sovereignty of God; everything is His. He is all-powerful. Yet if this is true, why do I seem to limit what He can do?

As I grow older, my prayer list has grown longer. I have noticed that some prayer requests I have prayed for have stayed with me for a long time. The requests, while similar, have not been the same; in some cases, there seem to be compromises with God. Perhaps not full healing, but less pain for person X. No longer do I pray for complete victory. Perhaps, some improvement is good enough?

But God is unchanging; His sovereignty has not diminished over time. So, why did my belief that God could give me a “victory” become weaker? Could it be that I feel God will not bless me as much, and that if I ask for less, I will seem less greedy? This suddenly feels like negotiating with God rather than surrendering and trusting in Him.

APPLY:

But that is not how our God functions. Our good Father wants the best for me, and His timing is perfect. Hence, I should not be afraid to ask Him boldly, to knock at His door, to cry out, and to lament, “How long, O God?” I can always trust and remember that He can do all things. He is sovereign over all things.

DO:

I will remind myself that even in long seasons of waiting, my God is still sovereign and all-powerful; there is nothing that He cannot do. I need to persevere, trust and wait upon the Lord’s perfect time.

PRAY:

Heavenly Father, thank You that You remember me and remain faithful even when I cannot see Your Hand at work on the tapestry of my life. Teach me to wait patiently and obey You completely and wholeheartedly, just as Noah did. Help me to trust in Your timing above my own desires and to make worship my first response in every mountain top or valley low. May my life be an altar of gratitude that honours and glorifies Your Name. Strengthen my faith to believe that through every storm I will see a rainbow sign of Your covenant, according to Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
