What Does The Lord Require Of Us?

OBSERVE:
Psalm 72 is a wonderful prayer of King David (V20) for his son Solomon’s coming reign. David prayed that God would grant Solomon the wisdom to rule with righteousness and justice, protect the poor and needy (V1-2), defend the afflicted ones and crush the oppressor (V4). That the people would fear God with reverence and worship (V5). Solomon’s reign was to be one of peace and prosperity for the nation (V3,7).
Kings, rulers and leaders of nations are shepherds of the people. A good shepherd is one who looks after the welfare of his sheep and guides them in the path of righteousness.
APPLY:
In this tumultuous world that we live in today, many leaders in power only focus on self-interest. What does the Lord require of me in this turbulent time? Micah 6:8 comes to mind “… to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
I am reminded that though I may not be in a position to wield power and great influence, as a true disciple and follower of Christ, it is important that my life exhibits love, compassion, mercy, justice and peace. My life is to be the message that can influence the people around me and those who cross my path to see Christ in me.
DO:
To pray for leaders to have wisdom from on high to make the world a better place to live in; peace and prosperity for all nations.
To be a channel of God’s blessing as He leads and guides.
In my daily life, to bring some cheer and joy in simple ways to the many cleaners, gardeners, and workers in my neighbourhood. Be it a smile, a greeting, befriending them and presenting small gifts on special occasions to show my appreciation for their hard work.
PRAY:
Abba Father, God of mercy and grace, You are sovereign over the nations. May the leaders and rulers of the world have a good shepherd’s heart in leading their nations so that the world will be a better place. May the lives of Your children proclaim Your message of love, hope, justice and peace so that others will be drawn to You. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen!
