The Blessing Of Hope
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Genesis 2 and Psalm 71:14-24 (NIV)
(Chan Chuu Ling from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 71:14-24 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
In the second half of Psalm 71, the writer continues to speak about praising God (v14, 16-17, 22-23) because of His character (His righteousness and His faithfulness) and what He has done for him. The writer knows he can rely on God because He is good and He has proven it countless times throughout his life, in spite of his troubles (v15, 20-21). He cannot keep silent about God (v18, 24).
APPLY:
Psalm 71:14 says “I will always have hope” – it is such a blessing to be able to say this! I am blessed because I know this is true and that I always have hope because of God. The darkest valley is not the end because we will end on a mountain top with God.
In KJV, Psalm 71:15b reads “for I know not the numbers thereof” or in ESV “for their number is past my knowledge” in reference to God’s righteous deeds and saving acts. They are countless, meaning I don’t even know all He has done for me. That is so amazing and I am so grateful.
Remembering all the times in the past He has helped me, I continue to praise Him and hope in Him for the struggles I have today. But there are so many struggling now with no hope, with no way out – this is an urgent reminder from God to be more active in spreading my hope to others. I cannot and should not keep silent.
DO:
- Reflect on God’s blessings frequently, counting my blessings helps me to be grateful for all God has done for me.
- Pray for opportunities to speak to those I am burdened for and to be able to do it with boldness.
PRAY:
Dear God, I thank You for Your countless blessings. I am so grateful that I can trust You and rely on You, that You are there in both good times and bad times. I pray for my beloved family and friends, especially those who do not yet know You. Please grant me opportunities to speak to them about all You have done in my life and to share my joy in You. Help me not to shy away nor be fearful when these opportunities come. Draw them near You, and I pray they will be blessed with that same joy and comfort as they acknowledge You as their Lord and Saviour. Thank you Jesus, in Your name I pray, Amen!
