Resting In The Creator’s Care

OBSERVE:
Genesis 1 reveals God as the majestic Creator who formed the heavens, the earth, the mountains, the lakes, and every living creature. In six days, He completed His creation and declared it very good. I thought of the Shirogane Blue Pond in Hokkaido. Although it was formed accidentally, its striking blue waters surrounded by a peaceful forest display God’s wonderful handiwork. Standing there, I marveled at His creation and praised God.
Psalm 71:9 caught my attention: “Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.” After declaring God’s lifelong faithfulness, the psalmist honestly expressed his fears about growing old. His faith gave him confidence to bring his fears before God, trusting Him to sustain him.
APPLY:
I can relate to the psalmist because I am now in my fifties. I am not as strong as I used to be, and even my growing tummy reminds me that I am getting older! Like the psalmist, I find it helpful to pause and remember God’s faithfulness throughout my life. I am thankful that Jesus, my Good Shepherd, continues to watch over me and my family. Genesis 1 reminds me that the all-powerful Creator is able to care for every detail of my life, including my old age.
I experienced this during our return trip from Hokkaido. Our domestic flight was delayed, causing us to miss our connecting flight. Instead of panicking, I experienced an unexpected peace, trusting that God was in control. I reassured my family that everything would be fine.
God faithfully provided. An airline staff member met us on arrival and guided us through the arrangements for an overnight stay, including breakfast at the airport hotel and we were pleasantly surprised to receive access to the airline lounge while waiting for our flight the next day. What seemed like an inconvenience became a reminder of God’s gentle care.
DO:
I will pause to pray instead of reacting when my plans change. I will remember that Jesus is my Good Shepherd and choose to trust His loving care for my family and me.
PRAY:
Dear Father God, thank You for Your unfailing faithfulness. Thank You for the beauty of Your creation and caring for my family. Help me trust You more as I grow older and rest confidently in Your loving care. Amen.
