When God Remembers: Awaiting His Timing, Worshipping His Faithfulness

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Genesis 8 and Psalm 74:1-9 (NIV)

(Esther Wong from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Genesis 8 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Genesis 8 depicts a beautiful picture of God’s faithfulness after judgment. It opens with the comforting words, “Then God remembered Noah” (v1). This does not suggest that God had forgotten Noah, but that the appointed time had come for Him to act according to His covenant purposes. God sent a wind over the earth; the waters began to recede; and the ark eventually rested on the mountains of Ararat (vv1-4). Yet even when Noah saw signs that the earth was drying, he did not leave the ark on his own initiative. He waited until God spoke: “Go out of the ark” (vv15-19). As Noah stepped out into a renewed world, his first recorded act was to build an altar and offer burnt offerings in worship unto the Lord (v20).

Several truths stood out to me. First, God’s remembrance is not merely recalling someone; it is His faithful action on their behalf. Second, Noah demonstrated remarkable patience in waiting; his confidence rested not in changing circumstances but in God’s timing. Upon seeing dry land, Noah did not leave the ark until God commanded him to do so. Noah’s obedience was marked by trust – an ‘anchor-deep’ dependency, not haste. Third, Noah’s priority after deliverance was a sacrifice of worship. He recognised that every new beginning was possible only by God’s mercy. Noah’s worship pleased God. In response, the Lord declared His gracious purpose for creation and reaffirmed the regular rhythms of life: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease” (v22). God’s faithfulness becomes the foundation of human hope.

APPLY:

Genesis 8 reminds me that God is working even when I cannot yet see the outcome. Like Noah, I may find myself in seasons where I can see signs of breakthrough but still need to await God’s directives. Waiting is not inactivity or passivity; it is an expression of continual trust. I am challenged to resist the temptation to ‘act’ simply when circumstances seem favourable. Instead, I desire to cultivate a heart that acutely attunes to God’s voice and follows His leading. Noah also teaches me that worship should precede all my plans. Often, I celebrate God’s blessings without first honouring the Giver. True worship recognises that every breath, every new beginning, every open door is an expression of God’s grace.

DO:

I will intentionally wait upon God before acting, especially when making significant decisions. I will begin each day by thanking Him for His faithfulness and practising contemplative introspection – recalling and journaling specific ways God has “remembered” me and faithfully carried me through previous “floods” and “storms of life”, allowing remembrance of His grace to fuel gratitude in my heart. I will reflect on areas where I have been impatient and surrender them to God’s perfect timing through prayer and in confident trust. Like Noah, my foremost response to God’s faithfulness is worship before my next steps.

PRAY:

Heavenly Father, thank You that You remember me and remain faithful even when I cannot see Your Hand at work on the tapestry of my life. Teach me to wait patiently and obey You completely and wholeheartedly, just as Noah did. Help me to trust in Your timing above my own desires and to make worship my first response in every mountain top or valley low. May my life be an altar of gratitude that honours and glorifies Your Name. Strengthen my faith to believe that through every storm I will see a rainbow sign of Your covenant, according to Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
