My impression of Pastor Michael dated long before I was called to serve in the Mandarin Ministry (MM). He has a heart for seniors, especially for their salvation.
About 10 years ago, my wife and I had a burden for the salvation of my parents-in-law. We started bringing them to the evangelistic outreach services organised by MM. Pastor Michael spent time talking to my parents-in-law over after-service food fellowship. My parents-in-law very much enjoyed the conversation they had with Pastor Michael in Cantonese.
About seven years ago, my wife’s brother-in-law succumbed to cancer and passed away. Pastor Michael came for the wake, to comfort my parents-in-law. This act of kindness touched their hearts.
Pastor Michael is full of talents. I remember vividly a church camp fun-night programme that MM performed — a skit, drawing inspiration from the famous Hong Kong TV serial 上海滩 (The Bund)。 Pastor Michael acted in the skit, displaying his awesome singing and acting talent. He is the only pastor in my memory who would let his hair down and join in the fun with the congregation.
When I was called to serve in MM five years ago, I immediately felt the warmth of a closely knit family and a congregation that has a deep respect for Pastor Michael, a result of his selfless and dedicated shepherding of the ministry.
Before my service in MM, I was afraid of praying publicly. Pastor Michael loves to do prayer. When I became Chairperson of MM, Pastor Michael gave me numerous opportunities to pray publicly — monthly birthday blessing prayer, opening or closing prayer for the weekly prayer meetings, regular pre-service prayer for the world, praying for church, ministry and individual needs. As prayer is the spiritual anchor for the good ministry work of God, I looked up to Pastor Michael as a model and learned to submit. This spiritual discipline draws me close to God and enables me to hear His heartbeat.
Thank you, Pastor Michael, for teaching and guiding me to serve the Lord in MM with humility and a prayerful heart. May the Lord bless you and your family with joy and favour abundantly in your new season of life!
