Joyous Celebration for Jalan Berseh Residents on Singapore’s 57th Birthday

On 13 August 2022, more than 500 residents from the Jalan Berseh area from all walks of life gathered at the multi-purpose pavilion at Jalan Berseh for a National Day Block Party to celebrate Singapore’s 57th birthday.

Organised by the Kelantan Court Residents’ Committee (KCRC), supported by the MWS Wesley Active Ageing Centre and Wesley Methodist Church, the two-hour event was an afternoon of fun and revelry. The programme highlights were as follows: a skit on how our nation coped with the pandemic, and a speech by Ms Denise Phua (Mayor for Central Singapore District and Member of Parliament for the Kampung Glam ward of Jalan Besar GRC). Goody bags, cream puffs and drinks were also distributed to the residents at the party.

As a result of the close working relationship we have established with the KCRC over the past couple of years, Wesley Methodist Church was invited to support this celebration by contributing towards the goodie bags. The committee members of the Christian Outreach and Social Concerns (COSC) Ministry were humbled and honoured to participate in this year’s celebration as guests. This partnership with various community groups, organisations and community leaders is the fruit of years of committed labour and faithful service by our church and its volunteers.

“Surely the Lord is in this place,” remarked Alvin Chua, the Chairperson of COSC. “The partnership of COSC with the Jalan Berseh governing groups is a journey of COSC bringing the presence of Christ to the Jalan Berseh community.  We are really encouraged and thankful to God for His many blessings upon COSC and the causes we support in the Jalan Berseh community. We are also thankful for His provision of resources through the various collaborations and partnerships with community groups.”

Our vision is to be a vibrant, committed volunteer-based community in the church, serving within Singapore and the region. Our mission is to share God’s love by reaching out to the disadvantaged and those in need, and providing volunteers opportunities to serve. About Wesley and KCRC

Wesley Methodist Church has established a long-standing partnership with the Kelantan Court Residents’ Committee (KCRC), and the relationship was further strengthened during the last two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The invitation extended to Wesley by KCRC to partner alongside them on the National Day celebration symbolises the successful integration between Wesley Methodist Church and the People’s Association as they come together to share and pull resources to better reach out to the community.
