The Alpha course, running from February to June 2026, began with an engaging Alpha Introduction dinner on 6 February, where guests, staff, course facilitators and congregation members gathered on the church grounds.

Wesley Methodist Church offers the Alpha course, providing a welcoming space for guests to explore the Christian faith freely.
Following a night of tasty food and vibrant fellowship at Wesley Plaza Rooftop, attendees watched a captivating video titled “Is there more to life than this?” in Wesley Hall that left them inspired.

MEETING FACILITATORS AND HOSTS
Following the video, everyone eagerly mingled with the energetic hosts of the Alpha groups, eager to learn more.
Detailed lists of available groups, organised by location across Singapore, were prominently displayed on large digital screens and posted on posters throughout Wesley Hall.

This setup provided participants with ample opportunity to explore various options for attending the course, including specific times, group sizes and meeting locations.
Over the coming weeks, participants gathered at their preferred venues to engage in lively, interactive discussions on topics featured in the Alpha videos, guided by their chosen Alpha hosts and facilitators.
The discussions covered topics such as
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- How can I have faith?
- Why and how do I pray?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- How does God guide us?
ALPHA DAY AWAY: A TIME TO MEET, REFLECT AND LEARN TOGETHER
Alpha Day Away 2026 took place on Saturday, 26 April, from 10am to 5pm at the Copthorne King’s Hotel Ballroom.

This eagerly awaited event brought together participants, hosts and facilitators to pause midway through the Alpha journey and delve into three compelling topics: “Who is the Holy Spirit?”, “What does the Holy Spirit do?” and “How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?”
Attendees experienced a day filled with lively worship, cheerful celebration and meaningful conversations on topics important to them.

Rev Dr William Sam led everyone through these reflections. He passionately explained that the Holy Spirit’s primary role is to direct our attention to Christ and reveal His completed work on the cross.

Pastor William posed an engaging question: “How can we truly be filled with the Holy Spirit?” He explored how we can encounter God’s love and power through the Spirit, emphasising three key steps.
First, embrace belief, as highlighted in John 7:39. Second, open yourself to receiving the Holy Spirit. Third, cultivate a mindset in harmony with the Spirit, nurtured by regular reading of God’s Word.
Throughout the day, the focus remained on the Holy Spirit. Participants explored themes such as spiritual gifts, including serving, teaching, encouragement, showing mercy and giving, whether these gifts differ from person to person and their purpose.
Pastor William emphasised that spiritual gifts are given to serve the collective good and honour God, not for personal recognition.

WORD OF KNOWLEDGE: TOUCHING THE HEARTS OF PARTICIPANTS WITH NOTES INSPIRED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Towards the end of the Alpha Day Away, hosts and facilitators gathered with their groups and handed out envelopes labelled with each recipient’s name.

Inside these envelopes were handwritten notes from our Church prayer team, who did not know the recipients’ identities.
The prayer team took time to pray for the assigned Alpha participants and to write notes inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Pastor William reminded participants that each envelope is marked for a specific individual, and that the exercise underscores that God knows and sees each of us as individuals. He cares for us and sees the burdens we carry.
The room was filled with quiet anticipation as each participant read and took time to digest the contents.

WORD OF KNOWLEDGE: A PARTICIPANT’S REFLECTIONS

Kevin Lim, a participant, shares his thoughts, “The Alpha Day Away is a unique opportunity not only to learn about God but also to encounter Him personally through the Holy Spirit.”
As part of the session, each attendee receives a short note, prepared and prayed over by the course organisers, addressed specifically to them.
These ‘words of knowledge’ are written without prior knowledge of our circumstances and offered in the hope that God may use them to encourage and commune with us personally.
Even before opening my note, I felt a strong sense that God was going to speak to me through its words, and indeed He did – what was written resonated profoundly with much of what I had been carrying.
The words touched on faith, hope, love, trust and surrender, but in ways that were very specific to my situation.
It was as though God were speaking directly to me, “I see you, I hear you, and I am here with you.”
That presence brought immense comfort and reassurance, which I have carried in my heart for the months since then.
The sceptic may say it was a coincidence or that the words would have been relevant to many people in different circumstances. Perhaps, but I believe the Holy Spirit delivered that message to me personally.
No logic can prove that, but it is the conviction of my experience, not only during the Alpha Day Away but in everything leading up to it, that makes me know it to be true.
And the only way to know whether God has a similar experience for you is to give yourself the chance to encounter Him as well.
“The words touched on faith, hope, love, trust and surrender, but in ways that were very specific to my situation.”
ALPHA CELEBRATION NIGHT
The Alpha course concluded on 5 June 2026 with a warm fellowship and dinner.
During the evening’s programme, which began at 7.30pm after dinner, the Plaza Hall was filled with excitement. Worship was led by the Creative Expression Ministry which led participants and facilitators in a rousing, energetic session.

Xiao Huan, another participant, boldly shared a powerful testimony:
“Patrick Chua, the Pastoral Team Member from Witness & Evangelism, introduced me to Alpha after I signed up via the Online Welcome Form.

Although I had heard of Alpha before and knew it was a course for those curious about Christianity and God, I did not know what to expect or how the sessions would be run.
At that point, I was still new to the faith and eager to learn about God, Christian beliefs and how to pray. I was also interested in the Bible and wanted to explore the Christian faith in a welcoming setting.
Alpha seemed like a great opportunity and an early step in my faith journey, helping me better understand Christianity. I decided to participate.
The Alpha sessions were a truly eye-opening experience for me.
I learned how to pray, how to start reading the Bible and why faith is important.
What I found especially helpful was the group discussion after each session. Listening to others’ experiences and perspectives helped me understand the topics more deeply and showed me how faith can affect people’s lives in different ways.
It also gave me the confidence to ask questions I might not have felt comfortable asking elsewhere.
The group created a safe, welcoming environment where I could openly share my thoughts and experiences, ask questions and learn without feeling judged.
The sessions also helped me understand the importance of worshipping and growing in faith as part of a community rather than trying to do everything alone.
Through Alpha, I gained a stronger foundation in my faith, met supportive people and felt encouraged to continue exploring and deepening my relationship with God.”
“It also gave me the confidence to ask questions I might not have felt comfortable asking elsewhere.”
