BRD REFLECTIONS

Galatians 6 and Psalm 97 (NIV)

(Angelyn Peh, Associate Lay Leader)

READ:

Galatians 6 and Psalm 97 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

I am attracted to look deeper into:

Galatians 6:7-10

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.  Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Psalm 97:1

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.

APPLY:

GOD is the Creator of the universe and He has established natural principles that are unbending.

When the sky is covered with dark cloud, we know that heavy rain will follow. When we see falling objects, we are reminded that there is the force of gravity.

When I was a little girl, my granny always taught me to do good, to not be deceived, because there is a God always watching me. Although she didn’t know which God it was then, her teaching still lingers in my heart. A Chinese idiom says: “种瓜得瓜、种豆得豆”. This indicates that a good cause will result in a favourable outcome while an unpleasant cause will lead to an unpleasant result.

There are times when we labour and labour in doing good, but seem to find no fruit. We continue to witness, pray, serve, give, teach, love, forgive, but nothing seems to indicate that we are successful in what we are doing.

Sometimes we also like to argue that so-called “bad people” enjoy longevity while so-called “good people” die young. But there is another idiom which says: “上得山多终遇虎”, meaning if you go up the mountain often enough, you will eventually meet a tiger, indicating that if you flirt with disaster long enough, you’re going to get caught. How interesting to see that the Bible has the same teaching, with Paul reminding us that “A man reaps what he sows”.

DO:

1.   Verse 9 is a very encouraging verse for me, that I should not become weary in doing good, for I have GOD who is my shield, my rock and my support.  I must keep pressing and never give up!

2.   Verse 10 reminded me to grab every opportunity to do good because every opportunity I have is an appointment arranged by God. There are many opportunities for me to say a word of encouragement, there are times when I may be able to help solve someone’s problem, or there may be times when people need my listening ear.

PRAY:

Almighty GOD, you are my strength when I grow weary, please hold me tight before I lose my direction. Anoint me with your Holy Spirit and with power, so that I may be able to go and do much good, and be a Blessing to plenty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
