Genesis 24:52-66 and Psalm 85:8-13 (NIV)

READ:
Genesis 24:52-66 and Psalm 85:8-13 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
In Genesis 24:52–66, God’s promise to Abraham continues to unfold. We witness a beautiful moment of obedience, trust, and divine orchestration. Rebekah’s willingness to leave her home and step into the unknown reflects a deep trust. This is not just in Abraham’s servant, but ultimately in God’s leading. She leaves familiarity for a future she cannot fully picture.
In Isaac’s quiet waiting, there is neither striving nor controlling. His encounter with Rebekah shows how God fulfils His promises in His time.
In Psalm 85:8–13, we hear a hopeful assurance: God speaks peace to His people. His salvation is near, and His glory dwells among them. The imagery of “steadfast love and faithfulness meeting” and “righteousness and peace kissing” paints a picture of divine harmony restored. God is not distant. He is actively bringing renewal, justice, and blessing.
APPLY:
Rebekah’s quiet obedience reminds me that faith often requires both surrender and movement. The act of letting go of what is familiar, so as to embrace God’s unfolding plan.
The reading invites me into a posture of attentive trust. Like Rebekah, we are called to respond when God leads, even when the path is uncertain and not knowing what tomorrow holds. Like the psalmist, I am reminded to listen attentively when God speaks. “I will hear what the Lord God will speak”. Learning to trust in His words and having the hope that God will always bring peace and life.
God’s faithfulness will always go before us and prepare the way. My role is to listen, trust, and walk forward in obedience, believing that His purposes are always good and His timing always perfect.
DO:
- Like Rebekah, to step forward in obedience, even without full clarity.
- Like Isaac, to have the faith and patience in the waiting.
- To walk in God’s ways, so righteousness and peace may meet in my life.
PRAY:
Lord, help me trust You when the future is unclear, give me patience when waiting feels long, and remind me that You are near, working peace, faithfulness, and love into every season. Teach me to walk in step with Your timing, Amen.
