God cares. Trust Him.
BRD REFLECTION 2025
Ecclesiastes 1; 2 and Psalm 146 (NIV)
(Christopher Ong from D&N Staff Team)
READ:
Psalm 146 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The psalmist praises God for being the Maker of creation (v6) and His care for the oppressed (v7-9). The psalmist also declares that it is better to place one’s trust and hope in the Lord rather than in human beings (v3-5).
APPLY:
Today’s reflection has led me to ponder two things.
Firstly, the Creator who made our planet (and the universe!) in all its wonder and grandeur also cares for the needy and the downtrodden. Surely people are so small (subatomic!) in size compared to an entire spiralling galaxy! Yet He watches over them, especially the oppressed and is interested in upholding their cause (v7-9).
Why does He do so? What does this reveal about Him?
In times of distress, I hope to be reminded that He who made the stars and the seas also made me and cares for me. I am not too small that He overlooks me. I should also be attentive to the needs and cries of others, since God cares very much for those who are bowed down (v8). Wouldn’t He like me to help lift them up?
Secondly, how much do I trust Him? Is He the One I go to first in times of need or do I run first to the “experts” instead (v3 MSG)?
I sometimes (perhaps oftentimes) delay in going to God for help, choosing to make my own decisions, and consult people and things (including Google) I think are reliable. While there is value in seeking input from others, why should I not turn first to the One who most knows me and cares for me? Would it not delight Him too that I trust Him enough to seek His counsel first?
DO:
I will:
1. Reflect on God’s character as revealed in this psalm.
2. Trust Him more than other people or things.
3. Seek to care for the needy and ‘bowed down’ (v8) around me.
4. Praise Him!
PRAY:
Abba Father, You are awesome! Is there a God like You? I am in awe of who You are. Forgive me for the times I did not trust You or hope in You. Forgive me also for not caring for those struggling and in need. Please help me as I reflect on this Psalm today and seek to apply Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
