Test Yourselves!
BRD REFLECTION 2026
2 Corinthians 13 and Psalm 37:20-26 (NIV)
(Lim Bi Xiu,Pastoral Team)
READ:
I will be focusing on 2 Corinthians 13 and in particular, verses 1, 3, and 5.
OBSERVE:
Paul gives the Corinthian church some serious warnings after hearing about divisions and immorality in the church. He reminds them that God is not weak in dealing with them and He is powerful among them. Likewise, God is with Paul and his comrades and even though they appear to be weak, by God’s power they will deal with the sinners. Paul urges them to examine themselves and repent, so that he will not have to rebuke them sternly when he meets up with them.
APPLY:
The problems the Corinthians faced are not uncommon, even in churches today. In a big church like ours, with people coming from varying backgrounds, there are bound to be differences in opinion and beliefs about what it looks like to live as a faithful Christian. It is therefore crucial that we constantly examine and test ourselves according to the Bible. As a church worker, I am aware of the dangers of becoming complacent and merely reading the Bible without applying the Word to my own life. How deeply am I allowing God’s Word to pierce through me? Am I allowing God’s Word to change my thinking and habits, or do I keep God at a distance, choosing to remain in my comfort zone? Do I get angry when others point out certain undesirable parts of me? Paul’s letter must not have been easy for the Corinthians to swallow.
DO:
I seek God’s help to remain humble and teachable, so that I can receive and discern what others may have to say. I will reflect more deeply on God’s Word and allow Him to speak to me.
PRAY:
Abba Father, thank You for the selfless example in Paul, who was not afraid to say and do what was difficult, according to Your teachings. May You help me to examine my heart and thoughts, not be quick to be angry or defend myself, but to remain humble and teachable to Your Word, and to feedback. Help me to become more and more aware of how You are working in my life.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
