Honouring God, Blessing Singapore: Day of His Power at Wesley Methodist Church

Every year in Singapore, believers gather for a lively event of prayer, worship and intercession on the eve of National Day. This occasion marks the peak of LoveSingapore’s 40.Day Prayer Season, bringing thousands together with hearts focused on seeking God’s purpose for Singapore. Since it began in 1995, Day of His Power (DOHP) Prayer Service has been a powerful time of unity — where hands are raised high, knees bow in reverence and voices are lifted in passionate prayer.

Prayer Gatherings Across Singapore
This year, to celebrate the nation’s 60th birthday, the 40-day prayer theme from 1 July to 9 August was ALL IN, encouraging believers to dedicate their hearts fully to God’s plan. To mark 30 years of this impactful movement, LoveSingapore organised 30 energetic prayer gatherings across Singapore — from Jurong West to Jalan Sultan, Bedok to Bukit Panjang — in English, Tamil, Mandarin and Hokkien.

Wesley Methodist Church was excited to be one of the prayer centres, where believers gathered in unity on the eve of National Day, 8 August 2025, to seek God for our nation and a brighter future for Singapore.

An evening of intercession at the Day of His Power

“I was thrilled and deeply honoured to have Wesley featured among the 30 selected churches! Excitement ignited as we quickly assembled a dynamic working group to prepare for the event, including an energetic worship team, a dedicated events team, passionate pastors and pastoral staff,” shared Audree Tan, Pastoral Team Member of Prayer Ministry.

She added, “To top it off, we even brought in first aid volunteers and watch teams to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for everyone.”

Interceding for Our Nation on the Eve of National Day
The evening service started with an exhilarating DOHP 2025 countdown video, setting an enlivening tone for the night. Pastor-in-Charge, Rev Raymond Fong then opened the service with an inspiring prayer. The worship team led us on a powerful journey of worship with energetic renditions of New Doxology, This is Amazing Grace and Holy Forever.

Pastor Jeff Chong, Chairman of LoveSingapore, addressed the congregation via video, urging Christians to go “All in for God’s destiny for Singapore” and to prioritise prayer for everyone, especially those in authority, for peace, stability and prosperity.

Pastor Jeff reminded us that, “Our prayer is the most precious gift we can present to Singapore on her 60th birthday.” He encouraged us to go all in and go all out to pray together.

Five Areas of Prayer
Next, we embarked on a spiritual journey through five powerful areas of prayer, each passionately led by pastors of Wesley.

Rev Gladwin Lee began with heartfelt thanksgiving prayers, thanking God for peace and stability (Jeremiah 29:7), wise government leadership (Proverbs 29:2) and that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in godliness (1 Timothy 2:1–2). Rev Lilian Ang then led us in praying that we become passionate and united believers for Jesus at home and within our communities.

Rev Ian Lee led the congregation in praying for those we care about deeply but who have not yet come to know or accept our Lord. In the fourth and fifth prayer areas, Rev Benjamin Lau passionately prayed for God to raise a vibrant next generation — one that is truly godly, deeply in love with God and boldly committed to His ways.

Rev Raymond Fong invited the next generation to come forward to the altar for a time of consecration. Rev Adrian Ng concluded the prayer areas with a heartfelt plea for the congregation to be “ALL IN” (Romans 10:13–15), encouraging us all to commit ourselves fully. He also prayed for our missionaries and lifted them to the Lord.

Rev Chia Chin Nam delivered the benediction toward the end of the prayer service. During the altar call, many individuals stepped forward to seek prayers for their concerns and petitions.

Our Thoughts and Reflections
“I was deeply moved by the worship and the various areas of prayer during the event. It reminded me of how important it is to pray for Singapore and for the future leaders of our churches. I’m excited to see God’s plans unfold — not just for our nation but also for the growth of churches across Singapore,” Sarah Balaraj shared.

Echoing similar sentiments, Peter and Doris Chow said, “Our time at the prayer event was truly enriching. The worship was deeply inspiring and united the congregation in heartfelt praise to our Lord. We especially appreciated the meaningful prayer area dedicated to the next generation. As we prayed, we learned the importance of praying specifically for our loved ones.”

“I hope to see Wesley Methodist Church develop into a house of prayer. I strongly believe that God desires us to be a praying church. Additionally, I trust that God will listen to and answer our united prayers in His perfect timing,” said Audree Tan.
