Day of His Power 2026 at Wesley Methodist Church: A Night of Unified Prayer for Singapore

As Singapore prepared to celebrate its 61st National Day, some 430 believers filled the sanctuary of Wesley Methodist Church for the annual Day of His Power (DOHP) service on Friday, 7 August 2026.

Marking its 31st anniversary since its inception in 1995, DOHP serves as the solemn culmination of LoveSingapore’s annual 40-Day Prayer season (1 July to 9 August).

This year, Wesley was proud to once again serve as a regional prayer centre for DOHP. As one of 32 centres across the island, it joined believers from diverse Christian denominations and parachurch organisations in united intercession for our nation’s spiritual destiny.

STRENGTH IN UNITY: THE 2026 THEME

Under this year’s unifying theme, “Together”, the evening underscored how complementary strengths across the body of Christ create divine synergy.

Worship leader Matthew Peter and the Prayer & Praise worship team prepared hearts for prayer through a time of worship marked by adoration and reverence, setting a powerful tone for corporate intercession.

An opening video message from LoveSingapore Chairman Pastor Jeff Chong and Pastor Claudia Chong of HOPE Singapore set the tone for the evening:

“No matter the season, busy, stretched or even uncertain, we have always come back to this. Praying together because prayer keeps us aligned with God and deeply connected to each other. In the same way, as the Body of Christ, when we pray together we stay aligned, we stay united, we stay on mission.”

Anchoring the evening service was our Pastor-in-Charge, Rev Raymond Fong, who guided the congregation through the programme, while Pastors Lilian Ang, Lim Jen Huat, William Sam, Ian Lee, Rufus Chan and Daniel Koh each led and concluded their designated prayer segments.

INTENTIONAL INTERCESSION

Gathered in pairs and triads with fellow worshippers, many meeting one another for the first time, the congregation poured out prayers across three key focus areas:

Turning Singapore Godward: Pastor Raymond challenged participants to turn away from complacency and embrace total consecration.

Winning the Youth: A profound focal point of the evening unfolded as Pastor Raymond invited all youth and young adults aged 13 to 30 to the altar. Pastors and ministry leaders surrounded them, laying hands on them in intimate prayer to commission the next generation to live lives of holiness and discipleship.

Blessing the Nations and Government: During the service, corporate prayer widened to global missions, praying for Singapore as a launching pad for church planting and for the protection of the persecuted church. Commemorating 61 years of national peace, the congregation also lifted up the Prime Minister and Cabinet leaders, asking God for divine wisdom and foresight.

CARRYING THE SPIRITUAL MOMENTUM FORWARD

As the service drew to a close at 9.30pm, Pastor Raymond delivered the benediction, reminding believers that corporate prayer is an ongoing lifestyle rather than a single annual event.

“My biggest takeaway from DOHP was that the early church met to pray regularly and corporately and we have to learn from them,” said Audree Tan, a pastoral team member for Prayer Ministry at Wesley.

“Through regular meetups, the church will be strengthened to shoulder on bravely, to share the good news far and wide with many others throughout our life journey.”

The evening ended with fellowship and light refreshments, providing attendees with an opportunity to connect and encourage one another as they prepared to carry the momentum of DOHP back into their homes, workplaces and ministries.

Reflecting on the powerful gathering, Pastor Raymond said: “I was truly moved by the sight of so many gathering to humble ourselves to seek the Lord in worship and intercession. The Spirit of God moved mightily in our midst as we come together as one to pray for God to bless our country and revive our youth and church to be His faithful disciples. May the Lord be delighted with our offering of prayer and praise!”

The words shared by Pastors Jeff and Claudia Chong during their video message served as a powerful reminder for the road ahead: “John Wesley once said, ‘God does nothing except in response to believing prayer.’”

“If we want to see hearts turned to God, if we want to see young people rise up for Him, if we want to see nations impacted, then we cannot do this in our own strength. We need to pray.”

Through worship and prayer, hearts were aligned with God’s purposes for the Church and the nation

“Prayer is the mightiest instrument God has placed in our hands.”

I was overwhelmed by the deep sense of togetherness at the DOHP. There was hearty singing of praises to God resounding throughout the sanctuary and a solidarity of voices pressing on heaven’s door. When the sea of young people streamed up to the altar, I saw a glimpse of the future we were interceding for. (Joelyn Ong)

It was a really great session. It was our first time at DOHP and also the first time we came together as a small group. It was moving to see everyone come as one body to pray over families and the nation. (Jethro and Jie Ru Hee)

Immersed in worship, hearts fully focused on God’s presence and purpose

I think it is wonderful to see so many God-loving Christians come together to pray and praise the Lord. I can really feel the Holy Spirit moving in this place and I am especially hopeful for the nation upon seeing younger people so passionate for Christ. (Andrew Tay)

Prayer must be of key importance to every child of God. We pray together not only with people we know but also with members of the body of Christ whom we may not know. This was my experience as I was seated with a brother whom I had just met on the night of Day of His Power. (Doris Ang)

A heartfelt moment of united prayer as believers sought God’s guidance, healing and renewal

There were many Wesleyans and attendees beyond Wesley who came. I spoke with worshippers from Covenant Evangelical Free Church, Kam Yam Methodist Church and Faith Community Baptist Church. It was encouraging to see many of our young adults, youths and small groups coming together to attend DOHP. (Jairus Thomas)

It was an amazing DOHP evening of worship and prayer as participants praised the Lord and knocked on heaven’s door for the concerns of Singapore, the youths and the nation.
