Witnessing Wesley members at the NightFest unite for a common goal, providing a welcoming experience for everyone, especially those new to the church was very memorable for me. Collaborating with other volunteers strengthened my faith and connection to the community. I give thanks for God’s blessings and guidance. The church’s community involvement exemplifies Christ, making it easier for all to visit. Our hospitality reflects God’s love and serving the community provides opportunities for believers to express their faith through actions, fostering spiritual growth.

This event at Wesley is very new to me although I have seen it before at other venues during the Singapore Night Festival. But this time, it is in Wesley. My favourite moment is seeing the light up and observing how the old and young from different cultures mingling together.

I took the initiative to invite Singapore’s urban sketchers to participate in the festival, creating reels and posts on Instagram to spread the word. This felt like a mission, a first for me. A fellow Wesleyan sketcher graciously joined the effort by promoting the event on Facebook, expressing her desire to contribute to Wesley. The teamwork was fantastic! Ushers and helpers were also actively assisting sketchers with information, which proved invaluable.

Volunteering as a photographer for the inaugural Wesley@Night Fest was a heartwarming experience. Despite being new to the team, I was warmly welcomed, sharing camera tips and camaraderie with my fellow photographers. It was heartening to see our volunteers of all ages playing games, and engaging children and seniors. These moments embody Wesley’s goals for the festival: showing God’s love, building relationships and fostering a spirit of community and service. Though I didn’t interact directly with visitors, I observed young volunteers patiently guiding children, potentially inspiring future Sunday school teachers. Jesus modelled servanthood, and as His disciples, we’re called to use our talents to serve. Don’t wait to be asked; find your place based on your interests and skills. My experience with photography at the festival has led to new friendships, and I have no regrets.

We came together as a united body, serving and connecting warmly despite having met only briefly during training. Everyone was committed and had fun throughout the event. It showed that nothing is impossible with togetherness and dedication. I had a great conversation with two Greek gentlemen, sharing my favourite Greek island and suggesting they try the origami station. I also unexpectedly reconnected with a long-lost friend, a primary school classmate, among the volunteers.

Dressed up as a policeman in the 60s at the night festival was the most memorable experience for me, and I was recognised by my friends who came to the event. It was inspiring to witness the diverse crowd coming together. I also discovered the fun side of some individuals I hadn’t known before. I’ve always believed in building a community that reflects biblical values. For those considering serving, I say: just do it!

Coordinating events over multiple days, especially weekdays, was overwhelming and finding watchers to volunteer was tough on weeknights. Though tiring, I’m grateful for God’s strength and provision, bringing the right people to serve. My Small Group volunteered, reminding me of Psalm 121 and God’s constant help.

I was an usher at the junction of National Museum and YMCA, directing and guiding people to church when they are not sure which way to go. The highlight was seeing so many people visiting Wesley for the first time. Would I volunteer again? A 100 percent yes!

I’m deeply humbled by the servant hearts of everyone involved in Wesley@NightFest. Witnessing their unity as a body of Christ, bringing glory to God, strengthened my faith. I’m touched by how the team leaders prioritise our well-being, reminding us to take breaks and stay hydrated. The team warmly welcomes all visitors, and I even heard some are interested to know more about our church and services. These experiences brought so much joy, and I look forward to serving in future events.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and connect, recognising the need to extend blessings beyond church walls. I am blessed to be part of Wesley’s community service, and am eagerly anticipating future opportunities. My highlight was interacting with a family, sharing the joy of creating a recycled spinning top with an excited boy and his supportive mother. His enthusiasm and request for more tops for his friends filled me with joy.

The most memorable experience was playing retro games and interacting with talents to engage the visitors. The church served as a community of faith, welcoming the world through its doors, sharing love with everyone, exhibiting joy in the Lord and offering hope and peace to one another. By serving together, we inspire one another. It was wonderful to see people of different faiths visiting the church and having fun. My experience at Wesley@Night Fest deepened my understanding of how the church can be a light on the hill, with its members acting as salt to bring flavor to the community. The proudest moment was discovering that a fellow participant in the Disciple class I facilitated was able to answer some tough questions about God from a visitor. To future volunteers: come and be transformed by God to share the fruit of the Spirit with the world, bringing God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
