The Wesley family came together again for another Easter celebration! Triumphant hymns, a full choir and orchestra, and friendly church ushers greeted scores of Wesley worshippers at the Easter Sunday combined worship services. Young and old gathered to joyfully praise and worship Jesus, our risen Saviour.
All worship services were fully restored, starting with the Easter Sunrise Service at 6.30am to the Combined Traditional and Prayer and Praise services. Intergenerational praise and worship was present throughout. Congregants of all ages gathered to actively serve and worship.
At the 8.30am Traditional Combined Service, the worship in song was led by Mr Irwin Seet. It was a majestic and comforting sight to behold as congregants earnestly sang hymns like “Majesty, Worship His Majesty” and “Celebrate Jesus” during the Easter Medley segment of the Service. It was indeed a privilege to be able to gather physically to worship Jesus as the Risen Saviour after three years of COVID measures. During the Affirmation of Faith, congregants boldly declared their faith and affirmed that Jesus had risen from the dead.
The Sunbeams Children’s Choir shared a heartwarming Easter offering — “My Redeemer Lives”. The children danced and sang joyfully to the energetic beat, proclaiming that Jesus lives and his Kingdom has come. The thoughtful presentation reflected what a joy it was when generations worshipped God together. Pastor-in-Charge, Rev Raymond Fong, shared that Wesley is an intergenerational church that welcomes all.
The preacher, Rev Lim Jen Huat, then introduced three members from BeTween Ministry to read the sermon scripture from Luke 24:1–12. Following the defeat and despair when Christ was crucified, the disciples were amazed on Easter morning. They had come to pay their respects but found the tomb empty. Rev Lim reminded congregants that Jesus is true and God is bigger than our problems. He can turn things around. The cross is a symbol of life beyond death.
The services concluded with the benediction and a resounding “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. The triumphant sound of hallelujahs filled the Sanctuary, celebrating the joy of knowing that our Redeemer lives.
While Singapore has the Kallang roar, Wesley has the “He is Risen” roar. The services ended with the annual Easter tradition of the congregation’s affirmation—“He is Risen!”—thrice. This affirmation rose in volume with each repetition as congregants declared the joy of Christ’s resurrection.
It was truly an intergenerational service with young and old actively serving and worshipping. What a wonderful joy and privilege to serve a risen Saviour, all praise and glory be to our risen Lord!
