BRD REFLECTIONS

Revelation 3 and Psalm 119:129-160 (NIV)

(David Mok, Chairperson, Church Analytics)

READ:

Revelation 3 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

There is a common refrain to all the three churches in Revelation chapter 3; our Lord is merciful, and his door continues to be open to the three churches.

To the church in Sardis, in verse 3 Jesus said, “Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent.” To the church in Philadelphia, Jesus said in verse 8, “I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” To the lukewarm church in Laodicea, Jesus said in verses 19 and 20, “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

APPLY:

Our Lord is merciful. When we are spiritually wilted like the people of Sardis, our Lord offers a way out of our slumber. All we need to do is to wake up and repent! When we are weak like the people in Philadelphia, our Lord will come to our aid and keep us away from trials that afflict the world. When we are terrible and treat our Lord in a lukewarm manner like those in Laodicea, our Lord still stands at our door and knock. What a loving Jesus! What a gracious Lord! He never gives up on us!

DO:

There was a time when I was guilty like those in Sardis, being spiritually neglectful but Jesus gave me a way out and pulled me out of the wilderness after I repented. May I always remember the mercy given. There are times too, when I was weak in imparting my faith, but our Lord was gracious, and he took over. May I never take our Lord for granted. There was also a time that I was lukewarm about Christ, and I am glad I opened my door and embraced Jesus again with my first love. May I never forget the everlasting love of Christ.

PRAY:

You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, and I will exalt You. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” (Psalm 118:28-29)

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for being persistent with your love. Many a time, I strayed from you and your ways. But I know Lord, your ways and your laws are wonderful. Your teachings give light to this fallen world. Only in you, can I find the fullness of life that is everlasting. May I abide in you forever. In your name I pray. Amen.
