READ:

Revelation 11:1-14  and Psalm 133, 134 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In Psalm 133, God proclaims that it is good and pleasant for God’s people to live in unity (v1).

He promises abundance of His blessing, evoking the imagery of the generous anointing of precious oil on Aaron (v2) as part of priestly consecration (Leviticus 8:12). This abundance will be like the life-sustaining dew of Hermon which will feed River Jordan and provide much needed water to the surrounding parched land. (v3).

This reminds me of 1 Peter 2:9, where in His profound grace, God made us “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession”, with a clear purpose that we may “declare the praise of him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light”.

Psalm 134 assures me that I will be richly blessed by the Creator God as I praise and serve Him.

The passage in Revelations clearly spells out that God has specific tasks for His servants and will empower them as they serve Him. It is also evident that there will be suffering and persecution, all against the backdrop that we are nearing the end times and Jesus will come very soon, this time as a Victorious King and will bring Judgement to those who do not belong to Him. This brings added urgency in my task of bringing the life-giving gospel to where God puts me in.

APPLY:

I will strive to live in unity with God’s people where He has led me to, where I will learn to grow, love and serve.

I have been generously blessed and consecrated to perform the priestly tasks of offering sacrifices, worshipping and praising Him in all that I do, and proclaiming the Word of God.

I will not be ashamed of the gospel that saves and will be attentive to the divine appointments to share the good news to those around me.

DO:

I will be part of the Wesley Methodist Church Community. In particular, I will regularly attend Church services at physical sites, and be active in a small group where spiritual friendships are being formed.

In this community, I will practise spiritual disciplines, develop spiritual friendships, and be accountable to each other while always abiding in Christ and leaning on God’s grace in the journey of sanctification.

I will continue to pray for the salvation of my loved ones and acquaintances who do not know Jesus, and look out for opportunities to share the Good News and my personal testimony.

PRAY:

Dear Father,

I thank You that through Your great love and Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, You have called me Your own and chosen me to be a child of God. You have placed me into a Christian community where I am to learn to love and be loved, and to serve. As You appoint me to be part of a royal priesthood, help me also to bring You glory in my thoughts, words and actions, and also to bring the life-giving gospel to the world, motivated by Your love, the urgency of Your impending return and the coming Judgement. Amen.
