DAILY REFLECTION:

“… anything beyond this comes from the evil one” – this statement from verse 37 caught my eye as I was reflecting on what God was impressing upon my heart. The truth of the matter is that I will not be able to control the outcome of any event in my life. And if I use making oaths to convince others (or myself), I have not only pride in my heart but I have also lied to others and myself.

God has been faithful in my life in showing me His love and mercy, and guiding my every step when I turn to Him. I must confess that any misstep is often a result of me not being willing to follow Him more closely. This is usually due to the fear of losing control (lack of faith in Him) and thinking that I can control the outcome (pride in myself). I learn trust and humility only when I submit to His will.

The desired end result of every life-changing encounter is to know that my life is in His hand and I can trust Him fully in my life journey. More importantly, I know that He loves me, YES! His love for me is more than I can ever fathom.

True discipleship is doing what He has commanded. It is more than just the reading of His Word and praying. It is the daily act of following His every command. Submitting my will to His divine will, will lead to the fulfilment of His plan in my life.

FAMILY DISCUSSION POINTERS:

1.  Why do you think God allows us to experience failure?

2.  What does it mean to trust and obey Him in your life?

3.  If God forgives us when we fail to obey Him, how can we do better in forgiving those who have failed us?
