READ:

Hebrews 7 and Psalm 142 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In Hebrews 7, we are reminded of who Melchizedek is: He is both a king and a priest of God, in the time of Abraham. This was before Levi (son of Jacob) existed, from whom all priests descended, as stated in the Mosaic Law. Jesus, though descended from Judah, was declared by God to be a priest in the order of Melchizedek, an order greater than the Levitical one. Jesus mediates a better, greater covenant. He is able to completely reconcile us to God, interceding for us eternally as He lives forever.

Psalm 142 is David’s prayer to God for salvation in his despair, when he feels no one is on his side. He knows that he can depend on God who will protect him.

APPLY:

Praise God for sending Jesus, for blessing us with a better, greater covenant of salvation and eternal life through Jesus.

Even though we live in a broken, sinful world where there are troubles and pain, Jesus sees and knows our pain. And when we cry out to God, Jesus intercedes on our behalf to God the Father. We can take comfort in knowing that we will receive mercy and grace, and reprieve from our pain because God is good.

DO:

Pray. When all else fails, I pray. When all is well, I pray. When everything seems normal, I pray. I need to make prayer my way of life. It will bring me closer to God, give me peace and strength in times of trouble, remind me of my purpose here on earth and align my will with His.

PRAY:

Father God, I thank You for sending Jesus and for His work on the Cross. I pray that we will never take Jesus’s gift and His constant presence as our intercessor for granted. Thank You that we can rely on You as our refuge and our portion. I pray that as I pray daily, You will reveal Yourself to me and show me Your will. Grant me the strength to follow all that You say and bless me with Your peace, the assurance of Your good and abundant grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
