Seek Jesus Earnestly

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Matthew 20:29-34 and Psalm 70 (NIV)

(Angelyn Peh from Mandarin Ministry)

READ:

Matthew 20:29-34 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

The two blind men could not see Jesus with their physical eyes, yet they waited by the roadside with hope because they had heard that Jesus was passing by. Although blind, they recognized Jesus as the “Son of David,” revealing their deep faith that He was the promised Messiah, the One who could save and heal. They cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us,” demonstrating complete trust in His power and compassion. Even when the crowd rebuked them and told them to be silent, they did not give up. Instead, they cried out even louder because they believed Jesus was their only hope. Although Jesus already knew their need, He asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” This gave them the opportunity to express their faith openly and specifically. When they asked for sight, Jesus was moved with compassion, touched their eyes, and immediately healed them.

APPLY:

As I reflect on my own life, I recognize how often I profess faith in Christ’s power, yet instinctively rely on my own strength when facing difficulty, pressure, or uncertainty. In moments of busyness or emotional fatigue, I sometimes postpone prayer or quietly convince myself not to take faith too deeply into my everyday struggles. Yet genuine spiritual transformation does not begin with greater self-effort; it begins with a humble confession: “Lord, I need You.” Though Jesus already knows my burdens, His question, “What do you want Me to do for you?” invites me into honest and intentional prayer. I long to approach Him as the blind men did—with persistence, sincere faith, and the quiet confidence that He hears every cry and responds with compassion and mercy.

DO:

I desire to seek Jesus earnestly in the rhythm of my daily life. In moments of stress, anxiety, and workplace challenges, I want to resist relying solely on my own strength and instead learn to pause, pray, and place my needs before the Lord. I do not want busyness, external pressures, or competing voices to diminish my dependence on Him. Like the two blind men who cried out persistently for mercy, I long to seek Jesus with unwavering faith, even when obstacles and distractions arise. I desire to pray with honesty and clarity, bringing my true needs before Him rather than offering uncertain or superficial words. Above all, I want to grow in deeper trust, believing that Jesus fully understands my circumstances and will guide, sustain, and provide in His perfect timing.

PRAY:

Lord Jesus, thank You for always being near and ready to hear my voice. Teach me to seek You with faith and confidence each day. Open my spiritual eyes to see Your guidance and grace. Help me rely on Your strength in every situation and walk closely with You in peace, trust, and joy. Amen.
