READ:
Colossians 3:18-25 (ESV)
OBSERVE:
In this part of his letter to the Colossians, Paul is giving instructions on how believers should act in their relationships. He starts off at home with how husbands should treat their wives and vice versa. He then goes on to exhort children to obey their parents as it pleases the Lord before telling fathers not to provoke their children. He then goes on to describe how employees should act in their workplaces, remembering that ultimately we are serving the Lord and not men.
APPLY and DO:
As a father of a young son who is figuring out and testing boundaries, I should not let my frustration with my son’s behaviour cause me to provoke him and thus discourage him.
In my work, I am reminded that I serve a greater Master and that I should be working heartily for the Lord. I should think about honouring the Lord in all that I do. This starts with me committing the day of work to Him.
PRAY:
Dear Lord, I commit this day to you. Help me, Lord, to honour you in my relationships. Grant me patience and wisdom in how I interact with my son. Guide me at work this day, that I may honour you in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
