Supernatural Weapons
BRD REFLECTION 2026
2 Corinthians 10 and Psalm 36:1-4 (NIV)
(Pauline Tan, Pastoral Team)
READ:
2 Corinthians 10 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Paul’s letter exhorts its readers to shift their mindset of what power is. He reminds the readers that a believer’s weapons of warfare are not worldly but spiritual (v. 5). The temptation to derive value from accomplishments was warned against as true approval comes from God (v. 17). As opposed to man’s eloquence and “boldness”, Christ’s meekness and gentleness is true power.
APPLY:
The readers of Paul’s letter must have felt overwhelmed by the “lofty” and intellectual arguments levelled against their faith. It would be understandable if they had wanted to gear up for battle and defend themselves with similar weapons of boldness and eloquence. And yet, I am struck by Paul’s letter advocating “the meekness and gentleness of Christ”.
I am reminded of how I seek security and comfort in boldness, eloquence and accomplishments. How often do I mistake “worldly power” for true strength while seeking safety to protect myself by avoiding being vulnerable? It is so appealing to be seen as strong in the eyes of others, but this misses true strength – Christ meekness and gentleness.
I would like to remember that through Christ, we are given divine power that breaks strongholds beyond what worldly powers are able to do. Instead of relying on worldly weapons, I can put on His gentleness to draw on His strength: the power to accept both myself and others despite our imperfections, the power to be authentic, the power to build genuine connections, the power to forgive, the power to extend grace, and the power to love without conditions. That is supernatural power!
DO:
I will pause before responding, choosing meekness and gentleness. I will learn to embrace vulnerability and be authentic, rather than hiding behind my accomplishments. I will practise accepting myself and others, and strive to love unconditionally.
PRAY:
Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me that true strength is found in Your meekness and gentleness. When I am tempted to choose worldly strengths, calm my anxious heart and draw me back to dependence on You. Teach me to choose relationship with You and others over outcomes. May Your divine power break the strongholds in my heart and guide me to walk closely with Your gentleness and truth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
