Of Wheat And Weeds
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 13: 36-43 and Psalms 55:9-15 (NIV)
(Jennifer Lee, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
The verses from Matthew 13:41-42 spoke to me.
OBSERVE:
In this Parable of the Wheat and Weeds, Jesus taught that the good seed (wheat) that He planted in the world represents the people of God’s Kingdom. The devil, on the other hand, planted weeds (those who belong to him) among the wheat. For the present, the wheat and weeds will coexist. However, Jesus informs us that there will be a harvest during the last days. At that time, the angels, who are the harvesters, will sort the good from the bad, and the weeds will be burned in the fire.
APPLY:
This is both a hopeful and sober reminder of the judgment to come. It is hopeful because we are reminded that the judgment is not ours, but God’s. It is liberating for me to be able to release to God the people in my immediate circle whom I consider to be sinful or evil. Rather than being caught up in anger, unhappiness, or unforgiveness toward these people, I can leave them to God’s judgment. What a wonderful picture of the Kingdom to come, when all sin will be removed.
On the other hand, it is a sobering thought that at the end of the age, everyone, including myself, will be judged. This reminds me not to judge others when I am myself a sinner.
DO:
I will remind myself daily of God’s mercies and sovereign judgment. I will constantly search my own spirit and life for my own “weeds” and commit them to God.
PRAY:
Father, thank You for Your Word, Your daily mercies, and the reminder that You are my sovereign God. You are my Judge, but also my Redeemer. Show me Your ways daily, and may I constantly seek to be the wheat in Your field. Amen.
