Are You Submitting Your Thoughts To Christ?
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 13:31–35 and Psalm 55:1–8 (NIV)
(Dunstan Lee, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
“…hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught because of what my enemy is saying, because of the threats of the wicked; for they bring down suffering on me and assail me in their anger.” – Psalm 55:2-3 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
In this reading, David is feeling overwhelmed by fear and anguish. He is almost at his wits’ end and is pleading with God for deliverance. Verses 2-3 stood out to me today, particularly the phrase “my thoughts trouble me.” David seems to have been replaying thoughts of hopelessness and horror, letting these thoughts dominate and determine how he feels. Eventually, he exposes these dark thoughts and submits them to the light of God.
APPLY:
1) Be mindful of my thought life
I am reminded that my thought life determines my life. If I mindlessly believe every thought that slips into my head, I risk allowing and acting upon the lies that are planted in my mind. Hence, it is important that I know God’s truths so that I am able to recognise and reject thoughts that contradict His Word.
2) Bring dark thoughts into His light
I shouldn’t be afraid to be honest with God by sharing with Him the thoughts I struggle with. In doing so, these dark thoughts can be demolished and replaced by God’s truth.
DO:
If I find myself wrestling with negative thoughts, I will quickly turn to God instead of trusting in my own strength to win the battle in my mind.
PRAY:
Dear God, I give thanks that you are a God whom I can always turn to, especially in moments when I feel overwhelmed by my thoughts. You are ever ready to protect me from lies and always assure me with Your loving truth. I pray for those who are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, that they will experience the power of Your truth and be set free. Amen.
