BRD REFLECTIONS:

Leviticus 20 and Psalms 89:30-52 (NIV)

(Matthew Peter, Prayer & Praise Pastoral Staff)

READ:

Reading  Leviticus 20 and Psalm 89:30-52, these verses captured me:

Leviticus 20

  • V7: Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be Holy, for I am the Lord your God.
  • V8: Keep my statutes and do them; I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
  • V26: You shall be Holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.

Psalm 89

  • V33: but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness.
  • V48: What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver this soul from the power of Sheol?

OBSERVE:

I am reminded of the God we are called to serve. He is both perfect in His love and in His wrath. He is holy and faithful. He is constant and timeless.

In Leviticus 20, the people of God had rules to follow, instructions to keep for their good. They were to be set apart from the rest, chosen and sanctified.

In Psalm 89, the promise of God’s steadfast love and faithfulness to redeem and restore us from our fallen and sinful ways.

APPLY:

I remember a story of a friend who was to dine at a fine dining restaurant. There was  a dress code, jacket, and black tie for gents. That is if you can even get a reservation. It promised to be the best dining experience ever. But he did not have a jacket with him, and he was politely refused entry.

As I read the scriptures today, I see a dress code, for the people of God in Leviticus 20. The difference between the dress code imposed by the management of the restaurant and our God, is that our God is faithful, He is giving us open invitations, and jackets at the door if you did not bring one. Psalm 89 reminds me of  His steadfast love and faithfulness. Only our faithful God can deliver us.

DO:

I want to be able to enter His restaurant and feast at His table. I need to be clothed in His  holiness, which is the obedience to live out my life in a way that honours God, putting on the jacket Christ has given us, His righteousness. I am reminded today that in every work I do, in every season of my life, an obedient heart brings worship to our holy and faithful God. I must seek to live my life in the way God has called me to live, set apart from how the world lives.

PRAY:

Father, only You have provided free access into Your kingdom with the promise of a great feast. I want to be clothed in Your righteousness, the price You have paid for my redemption and entry. You are indeed a faithful God who has called me to live a life of obedience, to walk in Your ways. Even when I stumble, You are there with Your faithful, steadfast love to pick me up and clothe me again in Your righteousness. Thank you for being the God that You are.  In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
