Absolute Obedience
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Genesis 7 and Psalm 73:23-28 (NIV)
(Teo Kheng Hwa from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Genesis 7 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
God revealed His final instructions to Noah before the flood. Noah’s response was one of complete obedience: “Noah did all that the Lord commanded him” (v5).
In verse 2, God instructed Noah to “take with you” the required animals and birds. This suggests that God provided what was needed for Noah to fulfil His command. Noah did not have to search for them on his own; he simply had to obey and receive what God had provided.
In verse 4, God revealed the timing and duration of the rain, and its outcome after forty days and forty nights. This shows that God’s sovereign plan was neither vague nor uncertain. He gave Noah clear instructions and revealed enough for Noah to act in faith.
From these verses, I am reminded that God reveals His plans according to His timing, provides what is needed for His people to obey, and calls me to respond with faithful obedience.
APPLY:
This passage reminds me that obedience to God must be complete, not selective. Like Noah, I should not only listen to God’s Word, but also act on it faithfully, even when the instruction may not be easy, popular, or fully understood by others.
It also encourages me to trust that when God gives a command, He will provide what is needed for me to obey. I do not need to have every detail figured out before I respond. My responsibility is to trust His timing, receive His provision, and take the next step of obedience based on what He has already revealed.
DO:
I should examine areas where I may be delaying, negotiating, or partially obeying God. Whether in my family, work, ministry, or personal walk with Him, I am called to respond with faith and obedience, just as Noah did.
PRAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me through Noah’s example that true obedience is complete and not selective. Search my heart and show me any areas where I may be delaying, negotiating, or partially obeying You.
Give me faith to obey even when I do not fully understand, when it is inconvenient, or when others may not understand my decision.
Lord, teach me to respond to Your Word with humility, faith, and prompt obedience. May my life reflect a heart that listens to You and does all that You command. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
