God’s Place Of Abundance
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 17:24-27 and Psalm 66:1-12 (NIV)
(Wee Yeun Ling, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 66:1-12 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The psalm begins with exhortations to praise God and sing the glory of His name (verse 2). These praises are not offered because of an absence of pain and suffering in the psalmist’s life. In fact, they arise precisely because of the times of testing that God’s people went through (verses 8–12). Yet the psalmist affirms, “Thou didst bring us out into a place of abundance.”
APPLY:
My picture of a “place of abundance” is probably very different from God’s picture for me. I think of a place of abundance as a life with few worries, material comforts, and good health. I often perceive my “place of abundance” as a destination I have not yet reached.
God’s place of abundance for me is here and now. It is found in His salvation and in the presence of the Holy Spirit when I accept Christ into my life and confess Him as my Lord and Saviour. God’s place of abundance for me is to enjoy His presence daily and to walk in His ways as His disciple. As I meditate on this psalm, I appreciate the spiritual riches of the Word of God that have blessed generations of believers across the centuries. I cannot help but praise Him and shout joyfully to God.
God’s place of abundance often comes through times of testing in my life. When I look back at life’s challenges, I recognise that it is during those times that God’s presence is most precious to me. His Word brings me comfort in times of sorrow. When the season of testing has passed, I can truly testify to His goodness. As Peter said to Jesus in John 6:68 (NASB), “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
DO:
· Spend time in God’s place of abundance by meditating on His Word and resting in His presence.
· Remember to seek God in times of testing, for He has the words of eternal life.
· Enjoy God’s place of abundance by joyfully praising His name.
· Focus on walking in His righteousness rather than longing for wickedness to be dealt with. Trust that God will deal with wickedness in His time.
PRAY:
Lord, in times of testing, let me not forget that Your will is to bring me to the place of abundance You have prepared for me. Your Word reminds me that You are always good, even in the difficult times I experience. Your words of eternal life bring me to the true place of abundance – peace that surpasses human understanding (Philippians 4:7) and the joy of the Lord, which is my strength (Nehemiah 8:10). O my soul, bless His name! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
