Commit To The Lord
BRD REFLECTION 2025
Proverbs 16, Proverbs 17 and Psalm 112 (NIV)
(Philip Yuen from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
I am drawn to Psalm 112:1 “Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands.”
OBSERVE:
In sports, I have come across simple ‘friendly games’ turning nasty when parties do not play according to mutually agreed ‘rules’. Likewise, today’s readings remind me that when I walk in obedience to God’s ‘commands’, I am certain to enjoy freedom from guilt and sin. In addition, I free myself from anxiety, harm, hurt and from stumbling others.
APPLY:
Both readings in Proverbs 16 and Proverbs 17 are so very powerful and applicable to me on a daily basis. Proverbs 16:3 reminds me that I must ‘Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” I recognize that, ‘In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps’ (Proverbs 16:9).
Similarly, I find Proverbs 17:27, “The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint , and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.” to be an awesome guide when communicating with all levels and kinds of people. Working within and outside church communities, I do meet challenging situations. Nevertheless, I desire and try consciously to apply these powerful commands daily.
DO:
As a believer in Jesus Christ, I often ask myself how I ought to be different. Following today’s reading of the Holy Word, I will commit any decision-making to my Heavenly Father and try my best, to only do whatever is in alignment to His plans for me. I am aware that when I choose to obey His commands, I am certain I will find comfort and peace of mind.
PRAY:
Precious Heavenly Father, may my daily decision be in alignment to Your plans for me for I know that my motives are known and are ‘weighed’ by You. Amen!
