Applying God’s Word In Our Daily Life
(Goh Khean Chye, Chairperson, DISCIPLE Committee, Discipleship & Nurture)
READ:
Ezra 9 (NLT): 1 When these things had been done, the Jewish leaders came to me and said, “Many of the people of Israel, and even some of the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the other peoples living in the land….
5 At the time of the sacrifice, I stood up from where I had sat in mourning with my clothes torn. I fell to my knees and lifted my hands to the Lord my God. 6 I prayed,…
Psalm 12 (NLT): 1 Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!
OBSERVE:
In both Ezra 9 and Psalm 12, the people were unfaithful and the leaders were able to discern and prayed for the Lord’s intervention.
APPLY
As our church embarks on Intentional Discipleship based on the Wesley Discipleship Model (WDM), these passages remind me of two components of the WDM, Scriptural Obedience and Spiritual Disciplines.
- Obedience to study and apply God’s word in our daily life in humble obedience.
- Discipline to take action and intercede in prayer.
DO
As we start the new year, I will not just study the word each day but go deeper to allow the Holy Spirit to lead me on how to apply the word in my daily walk and to practise a Spiritual Discipline each week.
Being Intentional is the only way to avoid being distracted by all the winds of change that surround us each and every day.
PRAY
Father Lord, may you grant me the discipline to study your word each day and your guidance to apply your teaching in my daily walk. Amen.
