If The Lord Had Not Been On Our Side…
BRD REFLECTIONS
Revelation 7:1-8 and Psalm 124, 25 (NIV)

OBSERVE:
Verses 3-5 detailed a very challenging plight that King David was in, perhaps close to the brink of death with ‘men attacked us’, ‘their anger flared against us’, swallowed us alive’, ‘flood engulfed us’, ‘torrent swept over us’ and ‘raging waters swept us away’. What troubled times it would have been had God not been with all of them. He was careful to give all glory to God for the escape, and took none to himself as mighty conquerors usually do. He did not boast of his abilities when they rose above them all. He trusted in God and experienced His goodness.
APPLY:
Have you ever felt trapped by overwhelming odds? Well, I have. I experienced the work pressure of timelines and delivery of accurate and detailed reports on a project coupled with staff issues. Everything chose to happen all at the same time and one after another. All caved in and I was at a loss of how to turn things around in my favour. It was not a life-and-death situation like David’s but it was the fight to stay afloat.
With God, there is always a way out because He is our almighty God who cares and loves us. No problem is beyond His ability to deliver us and to solve. No circumstance is too difficult for Him.
DO:
I need to turn to God and surrender my needs to Him. I trust Him to grant wisdom, clarity, strength and perseverance to tackle each challenge, one at a time. In His time, it will be made right.
Verse 8 reminds me, ‘Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.’
PRAY:
Dear gracious Father, we ask for our faith and trust in you to increase. Teach us not to fear the difficulties we face in life but to overcome them because we have you. Indeed, nothing is impossible when we have you, Lord. Nurture us in rock solid foundational faith to sail through with and in you. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
