Acts 27:1-44 and Psalm 39:1-13 (NIV)

READ:
For this devotion, I have focused on the verse: Acts 27:25
So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.
OBSERVE:
Luke records the treacherous journey of Paul’s ship voyage from Caesarea to Rome. Paul boarded the ship along with Julius, the centurion in charge of the prisoners. Paul warned Julius and the officials of the danger of continuing the journey during the winter time of the year. But the centurion would not listen to Paul, choosing instead to heed the advice of the pilot and travel on toward Phoenix for shelter. (v11 to 12)
A very strong storm arose along the way and they were in great danger. The storm raged for days. The voyage became a desperate fight for survival as the days passed, and the sailors abandoned all hope of survival.
Although those around him began to despair, Paul did not. He trusted in God, and he encouraged the sailors around him. Paul had received a word from an angel of God. God would graciously spare the lives of those sailing with Paul. (v22 to v25). Further, Paul was fully aware of the Lord’s promises that he will testify in Rome. (Acts 23:11)
Eventually, they were all on safe land.
No matter how difficult his situation got, or how much adversity he went through, Paul remained calm, trusting in faith that God will deliver him.
APPLY:
In this broken and sinful world, storms of life will continue to happen. These storms may be in the form of sickness, financial hardship or broken relationships.
John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus promises us that we will have trials and tribulations in this world, but because He has overcome the world, I can trust Him during challenging times.
DO:
In times of storm and tribulation I will walk in His truth, entrusting myself to Him and have an unwavering faith in God.
I will hold on to His promises, I will appeal boldly to Him in times of trouble and replace my fear, anxiety with prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving.
PRAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, protect me from despair and strengthen my faith during the storms of my life. Surround me with Your divine shield and keep me safe and may Your presence be my fortress.
In the Almighty name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
