Built On The Rock Of Relationship
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 7: 15-29 and Psalm 41:1-6 (NIV)
(Peggie Chan from BRD Core Team)
READ:
Matthew 7:15-29 – Verse 21 stands out to me – “Not everyone who says to me, ’Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
OBSERVE:
In this passage, which concludes the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reminds us of the tree and the fruit it bears and cautions us that only those who are truly His followers will be accepted. He tells us to build our house on the true foundation, and ends with saying that He speaks all this as the One who knows the Truth.
APPLY:
God’s word – the Truth – is very specific about how I may be part of His kingdom: I should not only listen to it but do it! Doing it makes the difference. To relate to God, I need to know Him and be known by Him. That’s what a relationship entails. The outcome is that I will be the good tree and will build a house on the rock that withstands the storms.
I used to think God was interested only in the spiritual side of my life; so I brought only the doubts and burdens of that part of my life to Him. But later, I came to understand that as my Saviour, He wants to be involved in every part of me. Because He wants me to bear good fruit. Good fruit, good tree.
Persevering in serving Him in the path He has set me on, building on Him as my foundation, amidst difficulties and obstacles – is the crux of my relationship with God.
DO:
I will strive to walk more closely with God so I can discern His will for me – reading His Word is crucial. I will undertake the jobs He has for me and do them gladly and willingly.
I will love more of His people, and more deeply.
I will work more intentionally with the community (in and out of church) He has placed me in, to encourage and be encouraged by them.
PRAY:
Father God, I want to be accepted by You. Thank You for being my True Foundation so I don’t shake when troubles surround me. I long to be the tree whose fruit bears the mark of Your nurturing hand.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
