OBSERVE:
1 Thessalonians 4 contains Paul’s practical instructions on Christian living. The phrases that stood out to me, specifically from verses 1 and 10, were:
1. “Just as you are doing” and “that indeed is what you are doing.” These phrases show how Paul affirms the church, even as he continues to teach the foundational ways of Christian living.
2. “More and more” is repeated in the two verses, reminding us that faith is not about reactive damage control, but about consistent spiritual growth. Paul encourages the church to persevere in being set apart and to be watchful against spiritual stagnation.
APPLY:
As a second-generation Christian, the text reminds me that, regardless of how long I have been in the faith, I still need timely reminders of who God calls me to be and what is on His heart. Knowing God means living counter-culturally. He calls me to pursue holiness, honour, purity, love, and quiet living, knowing that the God of justice will deal seriously with transgressions. I am reminded not to become too comfortable in my faith and that I can always do more to walk more closely with God and love others.
DO:

2. I will be more intentional about encouraging fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and sharing my faith with unbelievers—explaining who my God is and why I strive to live differently.
PRAY:
Lord, thank You for Your Word, which encourages and teaches. I pray for humility so that I can be used by You, and for the strength to live counter-culturally. Help me to remember Your teachings and live a life that is pleasing to You. May I desire more and more of You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
