In God I Trust
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 13:47-52 and Psalm 56:1-6 (NIV)
(Yap Hon Chong, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 56:1-6 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The psalmist describes his circumstances and sets his mind on the right response. The situation can be seen in the repetition of “trample” and “attack”; the response is seen in the repetition of trust in God. This psalm sets my heart on the right response when I face difficult situations: when I am afraid, this is the antidote.
This psalm goes on to give more detail about the enemies’ schemes. It is clear that the enemies are not simply personal opponents of the psalmist, but opponents of all that is good.
APPLY:
This psalm reminds me of Nehemiah rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem. Nehemiah encountered enormous challenges and threats, both external and internal, as he worked to rebuild the wall. He prayed, put off fear, and trusted God’s purposes. Hence, the task was completed in 52 days.
Like Nehemiah, I face challenges and attacks in life, either self-inflicted or caused by others. Once I let go, surrender my worries to God, and trust Him, I will have peace in my heart. Even though the outcomes may not be what I desire, I trust the Lord that they are for my good and for His glory.
DO:
Whenever I encounter challenges and attacks, I need God to give me the courage to face them head-on. I will trust that God is with me to overcome these challenges and attacks. No one can harm me if God is with me.
I want to show the people around me that God is trustworthy. He will guide, provide, and protect me. In God I trust.
PRAY:
Lord, please forgive me for not always seeking Your guidance when I encounter challenges and attacks. I know that You can turn every circumstance to Your glory. I need to pray, have courage, and put my trust in You, Lord. Help me to trust that every outcome is in line with Your purposes for my life and for Your glory. In Jesus I pray. Amen.
