Victory Through Trust
BRD REFLECTION 2025
(Judy Leow from Mandarin Ministry)
READ:
Read Psalm 20 and Luke 7 paying attention to the following verses:
“So he replied to the messengers, ‘Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.’” (v22, 23)
“Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” (v47)
OBSERVE:
Luke 7 is a stunning chapter—full of healing, compassion, and unexpected faith. It’s where Jesus meets people in their deepest need, and where outsiders often show the deepest insight.
Psalm 20 has many comforting verses, but the most important is seen in verse 7:
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
APPLY:
During my career, there was a time I had to speak with my manager about an issue involving the unfair treatment of our department. I felt nervous, unsure how to begin the conversation, and my heart was filled with anxiety. Before the scheduled meeting, I kept preparing different ways to express myself and prayed earnestly. While praying, Psalm 20 came to mind, and I realized I had been relying too much on “chariots and horses”—that is, my own eloquence and reasoning. So I turned to God and asked Him to prepare the meeting for me. Although it didn’t go perfectly, I felt a deep sense of peace because I chose to trust in the name of the Lord.
What are the “chariots and horses” in my life? Is it job security? Or reputation? Or personal skills?
DO:
I will
- Pause and ask: “Am I relying on my own strength or trusting God’s word?” when facing challenges,— whether in ministry, relationships, or work.
- Practice surrender by praying before acting, even in small decisions.
- Pray specifically for God’s help and guidance when facing a difficult task.
- Gently offer encouragement and truth instead of judging those who question their faith.
PRAY:
Lord Jesus,
You see the humble faith of the centurion, the tears of the grieving widow, and the love of the broken woman. You answer in the day of trouble, and Your name is our banner of victory. Teach me to trust not in my own strength, but in Your word. Help me to come boldly before You—not with pride, but with surrender. May my faith move Your heart, and may Your peace guard mine. I lift up those in battle, those in grief, and those in doubt. Let Your sanctuary render help, and let Your mercy flow freely. In Your name we trust. In Your presence we rest.
Amen.
