Growing Among Wheat And Weeds, Rooted In God’s Truth
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 13:24-30 and Psalm 53 (NIV)
(Rebecca Lee, Mandarin Ministry)
READ:
Matthew 13:24-30 (The Parable of the Weeds); Psalm 53 (NIV)
Key verses that stood out to me:
“Let both grow together until the harvest.” (Matthew 13:30)
“God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.” (Psalm 53:2)
OBSERVE:
When I first read Matthew 13:24–30, my initial impression was about distinguishing good from evil. But as I reflected more deeply, I saw that the passage also speaks to the condition of the heart. God was inviting me to look inward first, not just outward.
In Psalm 53, we see that without God, people turn away. Yet God is not distant. He looks down from heaven, searching for those who seek Him.
These passages remind me that true growth is not measured by the world’s standards, but by staying rooted in God.
APPLY:
As I reflect on these passages, I see how easily progress and worth can be measured by outward standards rather than God’s truth. It is also easy to take on expectations that do not come from Him.
Matthew 13 reminds me that life is not about measuring myself against such standards, but about remaining faithful to what God has created me to be. The wheat grows alongside the weeds, yet its calling is simply to remain wheat, and God will bring the harvest in His time.
In my daily walk with Christ, I know it is not about striving to meet the world’s expectations. Instead, it is about staying rooted in God, anchoring my identity in who He says I am, choosing His truth among the many voices, and continuing to grow faithfully, even when growth feels slow or uncertain.
This is what it means to grow among wheat and weeds: not having everything figured out, but remaining in God—trusting Him, growing in Him, and becoming who He created me to be, knowing that He is with me every step of the way.
DO:
• Continue to seek God daily, even when growth feels slow or unseen.
• Remain rooted in His Word, anchoring my identity in God’s truth rather than the world’s expectations.
• Stay close to God and guard my heart from measuring myself by worldly standards.
PRAY:
Lord, thank You for reminding me that You see beyond what is outward and look at the condition of the heart.
In moments when I compare myself to the world’s standards, draw me back to You. Teach me to stay rooted in Your truth and to trust Your timing in my life.
Lord, give me an unwavering heart to always hold fast to my identity in Christ.
As I continue this journey in Christ, remind me that You are with me every step of the way. Teach me to abide in You, and to entrust everything into Your hands, placing my full trust in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
