Living A Spirit-filled Life
BRD REFLECTIONS
1 Corinthians 2 and Psalm 64 (NIV)

READ:
1 Corinthians 2 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Today’s passage is a continuation from the previous chapter where Paul sought to extol God’s power humbly (v1-5). From verses 6-10, he sought to explain that God’s wisdom can only be comprehended by those who have his Spirit, and in verse 11, he declared: “…No one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God”. Through the Spirit from God, we may understand what God has freely given to us (v12). Those who do not have the Spirit will not understand the greatness of God (v14). However, those with the guidance of the Holy Spirit can have the “mind of Christ” which reveals God’s plans for us (v15).
APPLY:
This passage encourages us to understand God through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Without accepting Christ, without allowing the Holy Spirit to live in us, we will never comprehend the greatness of God and what is to come. Only those who have faith will appreciate “the things God has prepared for those who love him” (v9). Those who believe in Christ’s death and resurrection and put their faith in Him will know all they need to know about salvation. They will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to understand spiritual truths that human wisdom cannot fathom.
DO:
Being Christians, we have accepted Christ into our lives and we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us. However, I acknowledge there are times when we feel spiritually dry and distant. Whenever this happens, I will not give up. Instead, I will spend more time praying and cultivate an intimate relationship with Christ through spending consistent time in His Word. I will want to live a Spirit-filled life, living every day in celebration of what Christ has done for us on the cross.
PRAY:
Dear Lord, thank you for being my Lord and Saviour. Thank you for your love, that you sent your only Son to suffer and die on the cross for my sins. I am humbled for I am so undeserving of this great love. I am thankful for this opportunity to turn toward you, and to follow you. Continuously fill me with the Holy Spirit, and guide me in my thoughts and actions. By faith, I will be obedient and submit to your will. For in you, I trust. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
