The Living Word Engrafted Into A Repentant Heart Results In Exponential
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 13:1-9 and Psalm 51:7-12 (NIV)
(Jesudas Menon, Precept@Wesley)
READ:
Matthew 13:1-9 and Psalm 51:7-12 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The passage for today presents, on one hand, King David who is wallowing in a sea of repentant grief after his concealed crimes were exposed and, on the other, our Lord Who is teaching by the Sea of Galilee about the logos (seed) which is sowed on differing heartware (soil) triggering various responses of either loss, dryness, choking or exponential growth.
Putting them together I see hope, as a repentant believer, who takes the necessary steps to make heartfelt changes to my heartware in order to seek restoration from and reconciliation with my Lord and God.
King David first loses sight of God when he uses his God-anointed authority to commit both adultery and murder. Like him, if I allow lustful flighty distractions (like the birds) to preoccupy my life then these will cause me to forget the past goodness of God wrapped in His mercy and grace. My continued efforts to assume that nothing is amiss will gradually dry up my once vibrant spiritual walk only to choke and asphyxiate the wisdom, stature and favour I once enjoyed with my Creator. Like King David, when I acknowledge His sovereignty over me and my frailty before Him, only then will my brokenness matter and my restoration begin.
APPLY:
King David lays out the steps to come back into the fold of the Shepherd as he acknowledges his sin and seeks God’s forgiveness. I, as He, should recognize that my grievous sin has ‘cast me away’ causing estrangement from His Holy Spirit. I must now allow Him to purge me of what is not of Him, so I can be seen as pure and washed clean in His eyes once more – body, soul and spirit.
DO:
I will openly welcome His Holy Spirit today, to run a check on the spiritual condition of my heartware. I will allow His mercy and grace to restore fully what has been stolen or lost and to remove completely the rocky and thorny distractions that are impeding my spiritual walk. I will do this as a daily spiritual exercise.
PRAY:
Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Keep me hearing Your Word that I will always understand.
Keep me seeing Your mercy that I will always perceive Your goodness.
Let my heart keep continually returning to You for healing, restoration and reconciliation.
Amen.
