READ:
Psalm 25:1-22 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
The Psalm in 3 parts:
1. Psalm 25:1-7 – David prays that God will not remember his sins. He asks that God be his guide and show him His ways. David also asks God for help against his enemies.
2. Psalm 25:8-14 – David tells us about God. Because God is who He is, He will answer David, and give him help.
3. Psalm 25:15-22 – David tells God his afflictions, trouble and distress that his enemies have inflicted on him. It has made him feel anguish. Again he asks God for help.
APPLY:
1. “I trust in you; Let not mine enemies triumph over me”—Psalm 25:2
God’s blessing to people who take refuge in Him. David places his confidence in God, prays that his enemies would not have victory over him.
2. “Teach me thy paths” —Psalm 25:4
David is petitioning the Lord to teach him and lead him in the ways of the Lord. He desires to walk in the way of the righteous and avoid the way of the wicked.
3. “Remember not the sins of my youth” —Psalm 25:7
David struggles to pray with confidence to God because of the awareness of his own sinfulness. Specifically, he remembers the sins that he committed in his youth, and asks for forgiveness.
4. “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him” —Psalm 25:14
The Lord promises that those that fear the Lord—who stand in awe of Him, who reverence and obey Him—will enjoy special fellowship with Him.
DO:
1. I am reminded that when I am down, I need to seek the Lord. I can always bare my heart and tell Him my concerns just like how David did. I can seek His divine guidance and help to show me His ways. I can trust Him (v 1).
2. To remember to have the fear of the Lord. To have a deep respect, reverence and awe for God’s power and authority. I will choose to walk in obedience as He teaches me His paths.
PRAY:
Heavenly Father, forgive me, and remember not the sins of my youth. Thank you for all the ways You’ve provided for me in the past. God, my Saviour, I put my hope in You. Help me to walk by faith even if I can’t see all You’re doing. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
