Numbering My Days
BRD REFLECTIONS:
2 Timothy 1 and Psalm 90 (NIV)
(Andrew Tong, Zone Leader, SGM)
READ
Psalm 90 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
As I go past my “CPF” age, I am struck by the 70 or 80 age Psalm 90:10 estimates as our human lifespan is coming ever closer. While it is true, as with my parents, that we can live beyond the 80 years, many won’t. Psalm 90:12 also stands out to me as it tells me to “number our days” and is a reminder to me of the brevity of life, how important it is for me to appreciate life, and to use it meaningfully. Psalm 90:17 is really a summary of the one reflection I take from this “prayer of Moses”: whatever the work we accomplish on earth, be it wealth, ministry, family, etc, it is only done with the favour of God.
APPLY:
As I consider life, how fleeting it can be, I think of how I have been spending the time God has given me. Have I used this time purposefully? Can I leave this earth with no regrets?
I must also consider Psalm 90:17. No matter how noble or good my intentions are, no matter how much effort I put in, all the work is “established” only with God’s favour. Everything I have achieved is only achieved with God’s favour.
Thank the Lord for His favour!
DO:
Be more intentional in how I spend my days, be more purposeful in how I interact with people and let God use me to bless them. I must continue to learn to walk and live by faith. I must seek and depend on God’s favour and not on my own efforts.
PRAY:
Dear Lord, Thank You for life, thank You for Your favour, Your steadfast love. Lead me to walk faithfully with You, teach me to trust and depend not on my strength but on You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
