Proverbs 25; 26 and Psalm 119:49-64 (NIV)

READ:
Proverbs 25:1-5 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
What caught my attention is Proverb 25:1-5 which teaches us that God reveals matters sufficient for our knowledge and if there are things that He doesn’t reveal, it is because humans are not ready to know them yet.
Solomon began by acknowledging the identity of God and it is His prerogative to reveal to us what is appropriate for our understanding, and He will conceal what He deems fit lest we be confused.
Solomon reminds us that men can use our intellect to search for things that we do not understand and it is God’s glory when we do. Only after the dross from the silver is removed can it become useful to the silversmith.
We can lament or complain but God is sovereign and the privilege of giving knowledge belongs to Him.
APPLY:
The stars twinkling in the distant sky never fail to amaze me. I love to stare at the sky and would wonder about the stars and how they stay in their place. When I was a kid, I would love to visit the Astronomy section of the National Library in Stamford Road. There, I would search the books just to learn a little more of the stars that so intrigue me. As years went by, mountains and seas began to catch my attention. I would wonder at the majestic heights of the mountains and try to fathom the mysterious depths of the sea. All these seem so unfathomable and I am not able to know the mystery behind them. Nature is so amazing in displaying the wondrous work of God.
Similarly, the more I read the Bible, the more I wanted to know God. I began to attend classes to understand Him a little more. The search brought me to BSF, Disciple classes, Trinity Theological College. I found some answers but I have also come to appreciate that there is a mystery about God that I would not know on this side of heaven. It is to the glory of God that I know just enough to stand in awe of His sovereignty, sufficient to stand amazed and worship Him. To know God and His wisdom requires effort to search and study the Scriptures. There is no shortcut. There is no other way.
DO:
I want to spend my time studying the Bible, be it on my own or attending classes.
PRAY:
Heavenly Father, the God of Creation who makes all things on earth and the universe, to know all that You have created is a privilege and to understand Your wisdom is Your grace that I want to treasure. Place in me the heart to search and know all about You. May Your grace give me that privilege so that I can be a man after Your heart. In Christ’s mighty name, I pray. Amen.
