No Lack, It Is Sufficient For You

BRD REFLECTION 2026

2 Corinthians 12:1-10 and Psalm 37:8-13 (NIV)

(Cassandra Leung, Pastoral Team)

READ:

2 Corinthians 12:1-10 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In verse 7, Paul mentioned, “I was given a thorn in my flesh.” That “thorn” was definitely something painful that hurt physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually. How did Paul respond? He pleaded with God repeatedly to remove his suffering (v. 8).

But God reassured Paul with “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (v. 9).

In the same posture, we see Jesus praying three times in the Garden of Gethsemane to be spared the suffering that lay before him.

APPLY:

The takeaway for me is to pray to God in all our struggles, pains, and dark moments. Very often, I start out relying on myself and only call on God when I am in the state of sinking sand. Prayer should always be on my lips at the start, seeking wisdom and guidance. I should pray with perseverance and place my hope and trust in God.

Paul boasted about his weaknesses (insults, hardships, persecutions) because they created the opportunity for Christ’s power to rest on him. The core lesson of this passage is that human limitation forces reliance on divine grace, allowing God’s strength to be fully revealed.

I am reminded that God allows me to run into tough situations because He offers His grace, which is sufficient to carry me through. The July when I turned 50 was an infinitely long month. It was not marked by countless celebrations. Instead, I had to undergo chemotherapy and brachytherapy. In addition, I was a caregiver to my mother, who had two consecutive pneumonia attacks which left her very frail. Tough as it was, I drew strength from Jesus in my weakness through much prayer and petition.

Indeed, I had ‘tasted’ His unmerited grace and am convicted that I can rise above my circumstances in His strength. Praise the Lord that I do not need to face my tomorrows alone!

DO:

I shall look into a prayer-filled life and draw wisdom and strength from above, admitting my weakness and lack. I shall ask for help unashamedly.

PRAY:

Dear gracious Heavenly Father, help me to deepen my relationship with You such that I can come to You for wisdom and strength without fear or shame. Be my constant guide so that I can do all things through You who strengthens me.

Your grace is sufficient for me. Amen.
