Trusting God’s Plan: Finding Faith In Uncertain Times

BRD REFLECTION 2025

2 Chronicles 18; 2 Chronicles 19 and Psalm 90 (NIV)

(Goh Khean Chye from Discipleship & Nurture)

READ:

I read 2 Chronicles 18:1-34; 2 Chronicles 19:1-11 (NIV)

King Jehoshaphat of Judah allied with King Ahab of Israel through marriage. Ahab convinced him to join a battle against Ramoth-Gilead. Before going, Jehoshaphat sought a prophet’s counsel. Ahab’s prophets promised victory, but Micaiah, a true prophet, warned of defeat and Ahab’s death. Ignoring the warning, Ahab disguised himself but was fatally struck, fulfilling Micaiah’s prophecy.

After the battle, Jehoshaphat was rebuked by the prophet Jehu for supporting a wicked king. However, because he had sought God, he was not punished. Instead, he implemented judicial reforms, appointing judges to uphold justice and teach reverence for God.

During this season of Lent, I also meditated on Psalm 90 using Lectio Divina. These verses stood out:

“May the Lord our God show us  his approval and make our efforts successful.” (Psalm 90:17 NLT)

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12 NLT)

OBSERVE:

Key lessons from these passages:

  1. Be careful with your alliances and decisions (2 Chronicles 18-19).
  2. God’s mercy allows for redemption and growth (2 Chronicles 19).
  3. Life is short—use it wisely (Psalm 90:12).
  4. Seek God’s favour and establish lasting work (Psalm 90:17).

APPLY:

As I prepare this at the end of March, I have been informed that my time in my current job is limited.

These lessons apply to my situation:

  • Seek God’s guidance and trust His plan (2 Chronicles 18).
  • Walk in faith, not in my own strength (2 Chronicles 19).
  • Life is short—invest in eternal things (Psalm 90:12).
  • God’s favour establishes my work (Psalm 90:17).

DO:

I take this as encouragement from the Lord:

• Don’t let fear drive my decisions—let faith lead.

• God is shaping my heart, not just providing a job.

• My worth is not in my job status—God values me beyond my career.

• If He closes a door, He will open a better one.

PRAY:

Father Lord, thank You for Your providence and for reminding me that Your plans are greater than mine. Give me faith to trust You daily. Amen.
